Customer Reviews

Stunning graphic novel. - Rated 5/5
This is my favourite Narnia story and has so much to offer: a secret passageway in the attic that links a grand terrace of houses, a pathetic but dangerous inventor, Uncle Andrew, complete with a foppish mop of grey hair, a box of magic rings "that looked so delicious that Polly, had she been a small child, might have popped one into her mouth", the ability to step from one world to the next via magic ponds, the witnessing of the creation of a new world - Narnia - by Aslan the lion-God figure, and a force of evil - the witch - who has learnt the "deplorable word" that can end civilisations when it is spoken. Like the story itself, the illustrations are surreal and majestic, with art deco style borders that really set the events in the Victorian era. The composition and the detail of the illustrations are of superior quality and each page is quite remarkable. Particularly dramatic are the illustrations of the fading world with the dying sun, the ruined, once majestic buildings now cast in watery orange sunlight. For a child who finds novels a bit much, this is definitely inspiring.
