A number book that grows with the age & ability of the child - Rated
This is a great book with the wonderful Scarry pictures I remember from my own childhood. My two year old son loves this book to pieces and it occupies him for ages as there's so much to look at. He hasn't realized it's a counting book - he just knows that it's packed with buses and boats, fire engines, tractors and car transporters galore. As with all Scarry's illustrations, there are little details to amuse the reader everywhere in the pictures; you can always spot something new. Following a little rabbit through the day, from one bunny and two fried eggs for breakfast through to 100 fireflies at the end of the day, there's gives ample opportunity throughout for masses of counting. There are double pages for one to twenty, thirty and so on upto one hundred, and within a number there'll be subsets. For example there are 16 wagons on the back of a train, five are purple, five are orange and five are yellow plus the guards van is red. So as my children grow, so will their understanding of numerical concepts such as counting in pairs, fives and tens and understanding/doing basic sums - and it's such a fun book they'll never know what they're picking up. Bargain!
A lovely book for practicing counting - Rated
This is a book that can be read and reread. There are plenty of opportunities for counting, simple sums and factoring. In addition the story lines contain plenty of incident and humour and the pictures contain fascinating detail. Its a book to share and one which my children do not tire of.
