Finish with Harry Potter - And require more. - Rated
After reading all Harry Potter Books my son and myself needed more so we tried these books. Witch Week was funny and easier to read than the Harry Potter Books. We were both very impressed and are going to read more of Diana Wynne Jones books. This like Harry Potter takes place in a school which is what appealed to my 8year old, and some of the book made us laugh out loud.
A great read for a sequence - Rated
This is a fascinating fantasy story about a boarding school with a few witch's in. They only start discovering their magic powers around a certain age. Strange things happen as they develop into enchanters but how do they solve these mysteries
An excellent, thrilling, mind absorbing book!+ - Rated
The note said: "Someone in this class is a witch". Anyone could have written it, but the most awful thing was, the note might be true. The last thing Miss Cadwallader, the Head teacher, would want was a visit from the Divisional Inquisitor. Mr Crossley wondered what to do about it.The book is a thrilling, mind absorbing book which once you pick up you just put down. It is about a world where being a witch was a crime and if you were a witch you were burnt. When the most unpopular girl in the class was discovered to be a witch they thought this was funny until the class realised the all were! I find this book, amusing, thrilling and above all exciting! I would advise that anybody who reads this review goes straight to their local bookshop (or orders) and buys this book, as it is the most brilliant book I've read. This book is not suitable for Jehovah Witnesses as it I about witches but to anyone else is a must!
wonderful! - Rated
this was the first book I read of the chrestomanci series. within a week I went out to buy more, and was disappointed to only find one of hte other books from the series available in my local shop. does that tell you how good it is? I found it easy to identify with the children who were very unhappy at their school, and the theme of people being hated because of something that is a natural part of them... that teaches us a lesson for reality too.
Enchanting, spirited, perfect. - Rated
From the moment I opened it magic fell upon me! Whenever I found out about someone being a witch I was usually astonished at who it was! I couldn't put it down because I had been captured by the way Diana Wynne Jones wound all these miraculous words into a sentence. I locked away my cares and my fears and enjoyed the magic spinning around. I wanted to go on reading it forever and ever. I would recommend it to children of the age of 9 or over. It is a book that I think everyone would enjoy reading!
