Sad, very very sad. - Rated
How sad it is to see the decline of a once respected author. I am glad that I borrowed this book from our lending library as I would have felt robbed if I had paid anything for it. There is no point in repeating what has already been said about the book in earlier reviews but I particularly underline the disgraceful editing. Someone in HarperCollins should be fired for allowing this mess to market.
This book merits no stars - not even one.
Wooden characterisation and poor plotting - Rated
Irredeemably awful. The characters are thrown in, ten-a-penny, plot developments happen at the speed of light - often purely and obviously just to keep the story moving. All protagonists are cardboard cutouts, with no real sense of motive, other than what they themselves express through the ham-fisted dialogue that dominates. The book reads as if it were thrown-together in a hurry, an impression reinforced by some terrible typos - whole words missing in places - with occasionally a hurried sentence inserted to help make sense of a situation, or so the author could point out "look, I've covered motivation - here, in this sentence". Avoid.
Worst Jack Higgins novel ever! - Rated
I have to agree with the other reviews slating this book. The only thing that amazes me is that some people actually gave it two stars! The story line is weak, the ending just isn't there. He probably just got tired of writing and hit the beach at that stage and the editing is the worst I've ever come across in an English language book. The editor ought to be fired and Jack Higgins retired right away. Shame on HarperCollins for bringing this drivel to market.
i cant take any more of this!! - Rated
don't even pick this book up!!!
This book has the same plot as the last 3 or 4 books.
I think jack higgins has run out of ideas.
Where's the editor? - Rated
I have to agree with all of the other reviewers. Indeed I only read this book as it was a gift - I had decided not to buy it, and that was a good decision. As well as a tired and overused plot, the editing was terrible. Spelling mistakes are bad enough, but the lack of continuity was terrible - including mistakes from one page to the next. I wonder whether the editor actually bothered to read the manuscript.
There was also either ignorance or again bad editing. When the male terrorist bought a New Hall, Cambridge scarf (to blend in with students) - you knew that the professor would immediately see that he was an impostor - as New Hall is an all women's college. No! Accepted him immediately as a student of that college.
Time for both Jack Higgins and his editor to retire I think (or certainly take a long holiday - actually maybe that's what they did)
