Fantastic Chic-lit! - Rated 5/5
This is my first Cathy Kelly novel and I can't wait to buy another. I could not wait to read it every day and went to bed early just so I could read my book in peace. I sat reading in bed 'til 1am as I was on the last 3 chapters and had to know what happened.

I thought the characters were described beautifully as I could visualise them perfectly. The ending was done brilliantly as I have never read a novel where the death was set so beautifully giving the detail of what the grandmothers sees in heaven. Can't believe anyone would find this book boring-it's great especially wiht thhe chapters relating to when the grandmother was a young woman.

Disappointing read! - Rated 1/5
I am an avid fan of all of Cathy Kelly's books but this one was not up to her usual standard. Bought the paperback at the airport (glad I did not waste money on the hardback) such a dull and boring read. Come on Cathy, you can do better. Would not recommend.

Yawn Yawn - Rated 2/5
Since reading Woman to Woman in the 90's, I have been a fan of Cathy Kelly novels, eagerly awaiting each new one to be published. This one however, and I'm sorry to say this, is boring, boring, boring. I had to force myself to pick it up and continue each chapter. The central characters have no substance, the general storyline is very repetitive, and you get the feeling that you've read it all many times before in other books, only better. I am still only three quarters of the book in and dying to get it finished, just so's I can move on to something else. I am sorry I wasted my birthday book token buying the hardback copy. If you must read it, only to see for yourself, then borrow it from the library. Don't waste your money.

Boring lessons in heartbreak - Rated 1/5
I usually love Cathy Kelly books and thought i was guaranteed a good read in this new novel. I am so dissapointed and for the first time ever, ive quit reading it. The whole storyline and the characters are so boring. Ive tried to persevere but i think id rather watch paint dry.

I logged onto this website to see if other readers felt the same, but they dont seem to find it quite as bad as me, although they have said its not up to her usual standard.

My advice if you are thinking of reading it, DONT, Save your money or you'll be so dissapointed.

Slow and steady all the way - Rated 3/5
I am a Cathy Kelly fan, but I've found her last two books a little disappointing. This one is a good read, it has lovely, realistic characters, a strong plot and lots of interesting scenes. It just seems to be missing some sort of spark. I'd love for Cathy just to let go and to throw herself at the page - she seems to be holding back for some reason, maybe trying to craft too much.
More emotion please.
The plot is about 3 different women - Izzie is young and having an affair with a married man; Annelise is older and her husband has just left her and Lily is in a coma and we see flashbacks of her life. Of all the characters, she's the one with the most spark - ironic as she's in a coma!
I'll read Cathy's next book - she's a good writer. And don't get me wrong, I liked this book - but it wasn't a page turner and it didn't make me gasp or cry. It was well crafted, well researched - it just didn't have enough emotional punch.
If you like Erica James or Jill Mansell you'd probably enjoy it. But if you're looking for more humour and a wry touch, try Marian Keyes or Clare Dowling.
