Lightweight? - Rated 3/5
Makes for a pleasant albeit bloated read. My impression is that most people would do well beginning with self-hypnosis and many would be fine sticking just to self-hypnosis. Temes' focus seems to be on wide coverage, i.e. showing all the things that hypnosis may help with.

Another book that gives wide coverage while sticking to self-hypnosis is Allman's and Lambrou's Self-Hypnosis: The Complete Manual for Health and Self-Change. But Allman and Lambrou seem to provide more substance.

I've enjoyed Leslie LeCron ("Self-Hypnosis: The Technique and its use in Daily Living" and "The Complete Guide to Hypnosis"). Self-talk, visualization, quiet sitting and common sense comprise a lot of self-hypnosis, so once you've realized that, your dependence on any hypnosis book will drop, but some writers do share useful techniques and focus. Hypnosis books tend to be inexpensive so you can try out a few to find the one(s) that connect best with you. For me, this book by Temes tends toward being too wide and not deep enough. Whereas I just have to pick up LeCron's "Self-Hypnosis" book and I. to my surprise, immediately involuntarily find myself breathing slower and deeper, as well as feeling calmer. But there's no magic, it's just that it's the book I got into self-hypnosis with and trust.

Look into my eyes! - Rated 5/5
This book is an excellent introduction to hypnosis. It explains the history of it, how it works and different techniques you can use. Do you want to battle a habbit such as smoking? Lose some weight? Use hypnosis to reduce child-birth pains? Improve concentration?
You name it and this book has a step by step easy to understand guide of how to do these things! You'll be amazed at what you can do with very little effort. This book has a complete glossary to explain all of the psychological terms used in the book.

Light hearted and informative - Rated 4/5
It's a relief to read a book which doesn't take itself TOO seriously and which informs at the same time. I agree with a previous review which pointed out the rather self-congratulatory tone of the text; don't these therapists ever have ANY failures?!! Nevertheless, for a general intro to this field, a good choice

Do not end your reading of this subject here! - Rated 3/5
If you have never read anything about Hypnosis before this would be a good book for you to start with. It gives a basic overview of the art of Hypnosis in a very light-hearted manner. It would not be a book that you would go back to again for referencing.

If you are planning to go to a Hypnotherapist, but would like to know more about the subject first, then this book is for you.

If this would be your first Hypnosis book, but you are planning to study many many more, then this would be a good starting block.

If you are wanting hypnosis for a specific purpose, then go straight to a book on that purpose.

If you already know about Hypnosis, then this book would be interesting, but would probably not benefit you in any other way.

I believe that learning self-hypnosis will change your life in a phenominal way for the better. A life enriching experience would be to take a Hypnotherapy course in your area. Everybody can naturally do self-hypnosis, you just have to learn how to tap this powerful tool, and when you do it will open up so many doors.

Excellent for beginners - Rated 4/5
I am a mental health practitioner and have found that this book conveys much information of value to lay readers. The content is valid and based on science. It is NOT a technical volume, so nit-pickers may be put off by the style in which is is written. But for the person wishing information, this book is a good start.
