Personally the best I have read - Rated
I have several of the other titles linked to this item, and although as already stated in previous reviews you will not be a professional boxer learning from a book.
This is the best attempt at a "how to" book for boxing I have read, although he does make some topics such as diet very general and simplified (or is it because we are brain washed by supplement companies that we need more x, y & z)it is the most complete book I have read. I have trained in Karate, Muay Thai and BJJ for over 20 years and due to age and medical issue's wanted to switch to boxing for fitness and this is the only complete book/workout covering strength training (without weights) that I have found - only 1 other title covers strength training which is via weights which is very general and not what I wish to do anymore. If you are a complete beginner and not hung up with getting overly complicated with nutrition or weight training (which after all my experience and years of studying up - could be a good idea), imo this is the number 1 book to give you a basis to develope with - also gives you a conditioning workout pre entering a gym to get your base level fitness in check..I only gave it 4 starts re the title.
A good start!!! - Rated
Anyone whose into boxing will be familiar with Joe Frazier. A terrific fighter in the 70's (former World Champion) who contested a memorable trilogy with Muhammed Ali, and also fought George Foreman (twice). Frazier retired with a 32-4-1 (27) resume and was renowned for his relentless agression, and vaunted Left Hook. Trained by the legendary trainer of Champions Eddie Futch Frazier has done it all and has the knowledge to empart.
This is a great book for starting out. Its very old school and focusses on the old skool training regimes. Frazier is not an advocate of lifting weights, modern day training and dietary supplments and it shows. They werent around in his day and he doesnt preach it here. If your looking for a book that features lots of info on weight machines, treadmill cardio and the latest designer whey protein your going to be dissapointed.
What you get in this book is good old fashioned boxing technique, and training (road work, medicine ball, situps etc) along with some sound advice on picking a gym, what to look for etc.
I would reccomend this to anyone looking to start out or just to get fit in the boxing way. Its not equipment focussed and the drills listed will get anyone fit. If your after something more modern and technically advanced then this isnt it.
Before you discount though you should remember that back in Frazier's day and before fighters used to contest 15 rounders (not todays 12) and box very regularly. Theres a reason for that, boxing existed before the treadmill!!!
