Customer Reviews

An excellent resource - Rated 4/5
I've found this an excellent resource for coaching developing managers. The material has an excellent evidence-base and is very accessible. The exercises are open-ended allowing for development whatever your level, though it may appeal less to more experienced managers.

very easy to use - Rated 4/5
For the would-be manager this book offers a simple and readable guide to developing one's management style.

A useful, practical and theoretical self-development guide - Rated 4/5
This book is divided into two parts that enables either the potential, new or experienced manager to acquire the skills necessary for improving workplace performance. The first part allows the manager to understand their capabilities through fairly thought provoking tasks and questions. This section culminates in a useful questionnaire, from which the manager can ascertain his or her strength and weaknesses based on the eleven key qualities that managers should possess. This then leads into the second part of the book where the 49 activities for self-development can be taken either in order or individually, allowing you to focus on your weakest skills (as indicated in the questionnaire). At the end of the day this book is only as good as the practical use made of the tasks (and the learning strategy you develop), nevertheless it is well written and presented and should make a useful addition to most managers' bookshelves.
