As a new parent I was advised to read this book by a friend.
I have worked with children for over 10 years now as a nanny, carer and social worker, none of this was as hard as being a parent.
I think this book confirms alot of my previous training and understanding. What this book does is give you the tools to put good ideas into practice.
My little one is a happy content toddler now and I believe this book has played a part in that. I'm just about to buy the Baby Whisperer for toddlers.
First class once again... - Rated
Having read TH's first book about baby whispering and following her E.A.S.Y style of parenting, I was anticipating a treat with this book and am pleased to say, I was not disappointed.
Juggling a (spirited) toddler and work, as all working mums will recognise, is no mean feat and I was feeling a little at the end of my tether in terms of what I was supposed to do in terms of boundaries and discipline (those cute little teeth sinking into my hand in frustration were beginning to wear me down...). I didn't want to be a pain in the ass to my little soldier but all my methods weren't working - I tried everything from ignoring the bad behaviour to getting cross and raising my voice to distraction and nothing was working! I didnt want my precious time with my son to feel like a battlefield and was finding it all very upsetting... Step in Tracy Hogg...
The brilliance of her theories and what stands her head and shoulders above the rest (especially the awful Gina Ford) is that she teaches you to teach yourself. She encourages you to take a step back, see the situation objectively and deal with it in a calm and controlled manner. She takes everything into account - the childs age, temperament, needs and personality as well as you're needs and temperament which can go some way into explaining why you have a particular situation on your hands in the first place!
Wonderfully accessible with easy to understand dialogue and ideas, this book (life saver) comes highly reccommended...
Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg - Rated
This book was recommended to me during my pregnancy to prepare me for becoming a parent!
It helped me and my husband as we knew it it was going to be hard work.
Tracy Hoggs approach is absolutley brilliant as she helps you to think of your newborn not as 'just a baby' but a little person.
Thanks to following the strategies from this book,my daughter was in her own room by 5 weeks in her cot, going through the night by 12 weeks old,and now at 6 months, goes off to bed like a dream each night.
The book is very good at giving you confidence as a new parent to understand your baby and to trust yourself in knowing what is right for your baby.
The book gives you pratical, easy to follow guidelines to help you interpret your baby's cries and body language.
I was sceptical at first, thinking to myself 'baby's are all different,it won't work' but I have to say, it definately worked for me and the 5 other new mums I've recommended it to!
Its true, this author knows her stuff, I would say its a bible for all parents!

A must have for any new parent. Tracy Hogg is an Angel who has helped my husband, baby Ryan and I have a wonderful first year. Her help has been invaluable in all issues from eating to sleeping, and everything inbetween. She helps you see though your babies eyes, and helps you to see where you are going wrong. Give her a try. She knows her stuff.
Worth reading for new parents to be. - Rated
Having read a couple of the reviews on this item - it's clearly not everybody's cup of tea. But do we really need to know this?! If you are soon-to-be-parents, not everything is as straightforward and as obvious as some people make out. If I'd have known about this book before we had our baby boy, it would have made things significantly easier - the sleep section in particular is worth every pnny of the book - some cracking strategies and scenarios - makes you remember you're not the only one having [if you are having!] problems!!!
