A much needed book - Rated
This book is really good for the parent who is sport obsessed and wants his or her child to go ahead in life. If you're wondering how much extra curiccular activity is too much for your child, then this book is for you.
While the writing is good and examples very helpful, I found that majority of the good advice was given by Noel (who runs a learning centre). In certain chapters it was Noel said this and according to Noel...
Apart from that, an interesting read and useful if you're a doting parent and want only the best for your child and their future.
At last - the right message about parenting - Rated
Cassandra Jardine has reminded us what we often forget: that our children are not accessories to polish to shiny eye-catching splendour but rather real people with hopes and failings like their parents. They ought not be be dragged into our comepeitive parenting game but nurtured so that we bring out the very best in them by recognising wht they are happiest and most confident doing. Noticing this, running with this, will inspire the confidence to eventually make them happy adults and successful parents themselves.
Down to earth practical advice - Rated
This is a practical book for parents of both so-called "gifted" and "ungifted" kids. It has lots of down to earth suggestions and advice. Cassandra Jardine is not shy to admit her own failures which also make it an entertaining read. HOWEVER, all parents would do well to tackle her first book on parenting FIRST, not only because that book is a 5-star book (even for parents with impeccably well-behaved kids like only one of mine) but MORE SO because UNLESS you PRACTISE the reflective listening and descriptive praise skills regularly, both of which are better explained in the first book, this second book will get you nowhere.
