Book Details / Review - supplied by Amazon UK

Freya North's latest novel, Pip, can only consolidate the reputation she has already established for sharply written, high-energy novels of character, in which her heroines battle against considerable odds to maintain successful careers and relationships. As in such books (similarly bearing their protagonists' names) as Sally,Chloe and Holly, North has created a memorable central character. Thirty-year-old Pip McCabe has been surviving quite nicely (she says) without a man, love or money. But her sisters and her friends disagree: Fen and Cat (the heroines, in fact, of North's last two novels) are trying to inject a little more love and sex into her life. She, however, is something of an obstacle to this plan, with a tendency to wear outrageous clothes and an indifference to her general appearance. Then along comes the 34-year-old Zac Holmes, who is living the life of Riley, enjoying his successful career and looking after his much-loved young son. Freya North's strategy, needless to say, is to keep both these individuals apart--and get them together. She creates canny obstacles in her plotting, and in the process delivers a highly enjoyable read.

Against a series of strongly realised urban backdrops, we watch the hero and heroine dance around each other, and utilise language the way an earlier generation used rapiers. This is not Booker Prize material, and doesn't pretend to be. But readers seeking a highly entertaining, exuberant read (with a capricious heroine who charms the reader as much as she infuriates) need look no further. --Barry Forshaw

Amazing - Rated 5/5
This is one of those books that once you start reading you never want to put down and you get so attached to the characters you feel their emotions and you sceam at the page trying to get the characters to do what you know is right for them, Freya North is a talented writer who will keep you entertained from the first word to the last if your only considering this book don't buy it and see for yourself what a great book it is.

Brilliant North - Rated 5/5
A lovely and romantic book that had me gripped from the start. My friend Lynsey dared me to read this as it wasn't my usual kind of book, and I'm so glad she did! I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. Pip and Zach are a good match and, although there are a few out of character moments (Pip's one-night stand for example) this book really makes the reader feel their emotions.

5 stars!

OMG I LOVED IT! - Rated 5/5
..so much i read it 4 times! lol maybe im sad but this one really did it for me!you wont be able to put it down!

Best Book ever - Rated 5/5
I'm not a big reader but i read the occasional book. i got a shortened copy of this book free in my magazine, it had about 300 pages so it was still quite a long book, once i started reading i couldn't put it down. this is the best book i have ever read, and i didn't find no faults with it at all, i would recommend this to anyone who likes comedy and romance books, it's really great!

It'll keep you entertained, but isn't a satisfying read. - Rated 2/5
I read this book on holiday after reading Harry Potter (so maybe that would explain why it disappointed me in comparison). Although it was entertaining at the beginning, I soon became frustrated with the plot. The second half of the book was more of a chore to read and didn't add to the book at all. I found some of Pip's actions (like her one-night stand) completely out of character, and hence didn't find any of the characters convincing. In the end I didn't care whether they got together or not!
If you're looking for a good book by Freya North I would recommend Polly instead. That is a book worth its money which I would read over and over again, unlike Pip which I will probably sell at a car boot sale! Sorry, Freya North, but you disappointed me this time.
