Customer Reviews

John Grisham's finest book - Rated 5/5
I am a huge John Grisham fan, and someone bought this book for me. I started reading it, and by chapter 3, i thought it wasnt for me. However, by the start of chapter 4, i was hooked. I read it in a day. Its such a beautiful book, so well written, and its just lovely. I didnt think I would like a book about farming, but it is told so well, you just have so much sympathy for the poor farmers. Its just such a wonderful book. It left me wanting to read more of his non-lawyer books. It is a very slow book, but it doesnt need to be fast, because thats the way of life. I really cant reccommend it enough.

Boring and pointless - Rated 1/5
I just finished this book and what an anti-climax. There is basically no story here. Recommend you give this book a miss.

A surprise - Rated 5/5
I wasn't sure at first what this book was going to like.
However, I was pleasantly surprised.
Nothing like his normal books, but it did keep me intrigued and reading all the way to the end.
Some have criticised the fact that the book is from the point of view of a 7 year old, I appears to me implicitly to be Luke thinking back to the events of that autumn (fall).
Of course it might have helped that I've recently read some Steinbeck novels...

An insomniacs dream - Rated 1/5
I'll keep this short. It took me 3 months to get through this one. I so wished it would pick up. I kept thinking soon something will happen, but it didn't.

The one good point is it gets you off to sleep beautifully.

The most boring book ever - Rated 1/5
I would give it minus 5 stars if I only could. The worst, most boring book I have ever read. Do not buy it - it looks like someone else has written this book and Grisham just gave his name to promote it.
