A BEAUITFULLY WRITTEN BOOK - Rated 5/5
My son is reading this book for his GCSE Coursework. I picked it up and started to read it and I just couldn't put it down. I had thought it might be boring at first, but it was anything but. There is so much humour, warmth and some sadness. It is no wonder it is such a classic book.

No words to describe how wonderful this book is - Rated 5/5
One of the few truly readable classics. I recently re-read this and was struck again by how poignant and thought-provoking it is as a novel. Scout as a character is sort of a childish "Everywoman" and we see Mayberry through her eyes and very much from her POV. It is a great read at any age.

Should be on everybody's bookshelf - Rated 5/5
Well what can I add to the sparkling reviews already here? Not a lot I suppose!

I finally went and bought this book (after a drive over the past few years to read all 'the classics') and the only problem I have is that I wasn't made to read this earlier! The concept of being a story about a black man's trial over the rape of a girl might have made me hesitate (a book about a trial - yawn!)But only now I have read it have I actually realised what a true GEM this book is. Far from being just a story about a trial, the atmosphere of it completely enveloped me from very early on. The main character is fabulous, and the events intertwine perfectly.

Don't make the same mistake I did - buy this book IMMEDIATELY! It will make you laugh, make you cry and won't let you escape until you've turned the very last page. An absolute masterpiece. Just writing about it makes me want to pick it right back up again!

READ THIS BOOK!

Brilliant book - Rated 5/5
I have just finished reading this. I was blown away by how brilliant this book is.
The humour in this story about serious issues was very touching. I nearly cried while reading one page and turned the page and was in fits of giggles. The story is beautiful.

The character of Atticus Finch is extremely thought provoking, his tireless fight for justice, he gets up and does what he knows to be right and fair, maintaining his politeness, his insight to all types of characters, good and bad, and what motivates them. Atticus Finch is a morally heroic character. His treatment of people is a model that all should aspire to.

Boo Radley was another interesting theme in the book. A non-person who was given a personality, story and purpose by Scout, Jem and Dill. Boo Radley was given something of his life back through Scout, Jem and Dill and their attempts to make him leave his house, and their humorous re-enactments of his life story. At the end, Scout laments that she never gave Boo anything back, but really she and the others gave him a lot by remembering and taking an interest him.

I regret not reading this book sooner. This is a must read book.

Wonderful, wonderful book - Rated 5/5
I had heard of this book, and had seen most of the film, as a child. When I recently decided there were a few 'classics' I reaaly should be able to say I had read, this was at the top of the list. I'm so glad I did, as I finished the entire book within a day and a half.

Considering this is a relatively short book compared to many others I've read, it packs a lot into it. I genuinely cared for the characters and what was happening to them, and was almost brought to tears on 2 occasions.

I loved the fact that the story was written from the point of view of an 8 year old child, as it kept the whole thing light hearted even though it was often about the very sensitive subject of racial discrimination. The way the child would describe an event, like the visit outside the jailhouse, amde it clear she didn't fully understand what was happening, but as the reader you know what is going on.

I have since given my book to a friend to read, on the understanding it is returned to me for future reading! By the end of this book, I felt like I was a part of the Finch family, and had been a part of a great deal of their life as the main events are summarised towards the finale.

Well recommended!!
