Brilliant page turner - Rated
From the first page, I knew this was going to be good and I wasn't disappointed. I bought this based on the reviews on Amazon, as I had not read a book by this author before.

Interesting and engaging characters, a fast paced storyline and clever plotting combine to make this a MUST READ.

You know that feeling you get when you love the first book you find by an author you haven't read before? Great isn't it! ....and even better when you realise there are several more in the same series that you can look forward to.

hmmm.... - Rated
Although this book was i fantastic read and defenitely not for the faint hearted. I found it quite predictable and with quite a few likings to other books I have previously read such as Retribution by Jilliane Hoffman and others I have read. This book did hold a certain quality which made you want to read on. The charcters were delightfully scripted and you really felt as if you were under the skin of Sara Linton. All in all I found this book pleasurable but perhaps a bit more of a twist was needed at the end although I would reccomended it.

For a debut novel this was fantastic. I can only imagine how good further novels went on to be. It took me a while to get into the style of her writing although the plot was perfect for me. As a reader, I need to be hooked quite quickly - this does the job! I found the hype off the back "don't read this alone, don't read this after dark" a bit too excessive but on the whole the other quotations were accurate.

Sara Linton is the paediatrician and medical examiner in a quiet town called Heartsdale in Georgia. The comunity is a close knit community which is rocked to its core when a much-respected local is found dead in the local diner. A diner where people ate at regularly and usually at specific times. The deaths that occur are brutal, it is compelling reading not only because of this but because of Slaughter's fantastic narrative.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people able to work out 'whodunnit' fairly quickly but I wasn't one of them. I was left guessing until almost the last moment when it did become obvious who it was.

The chapter lengths are good, I personally don't like chapters that go on and on so this was good for me. The characters aren't two-dimensional either, although they all aren't particulalry engaging, this didn't seem to matter too much. I still don't understand children calling their parents 'mummy' and 'daddy' beyond childhood but that's just my niggle. Also I thought Tessa's parents were too relaxed about her sleeping arrangements.

But those niggles asidem, this is a gripping read. Enjoy!

Great Debut - Rated
I confess to deliberately avoiding Karin Slaughter and made the mistake of assuming she was another Patricia Cornwell/Kathy Reichs. How wrong I was!!!

This is a great debut novel with a much harder/gruesome edge to it than I was expecting. The writing style is very lucid and I found the characters intriguing. The perpetrator was also not obvious although subtle clues were there all along.

It is a good storyline with an element of realism about it, given the very gory descriptions, which draw you in.

I would certainly recommend this book.

The good thing about it is there are quite a few other Slaughter books that I can now buy with confidence!!!!!!!!

More filler; less thriller - Rated
Reading the reviews I thought would be in for a fast paced crime thriller.I was dissapointed to read a book about a graphic, violent crime and its subsequent repercussions on the community around it. I wanted more intense action which simply isn't included.I suppose in its defence the novel keeps you guessing until near the end bit I personally didn't really care by then!!
