A Delightful Book for Children who Love Animals - Rated Children will very quickly become absorbed in this story if they have any affinity with animals. It is a classic book, written by a father for his own children when he was serving in the army during WW1. The author clearly has deep empathy for both children and animals. He demonstrates this in the character of Doctor Dolittle who with the aid of his pet parrot learns to communicate with animals in their own language. Very soon he is in demand from animals who require his help. His decision to change from being a Peoples Doctor to that of an Animal Doctor, leads him on a voyage to Africa in a quest to save the monkey population from a mysterious sickness. The story unfolds in a most satisfying manner, and the illustrations by the author himself form the icing on the cake.
