Bringing history to life - Rated
Having previously read 6 wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir, was keen to continue the story and was not disappointed. This is another excellent book. Alison Weir appraises all the relevant data available and puts it together in a way that is very credible, fascinating and enjoyable. She adds modern day interpretations e.g. possible medical explanations for the 'pregnancies' experienced by Mary which are fascinating in themselves and she also gives a great insight into the political intrigue and alliances that were so important to life in those days. The book is thoroughly readable and is multifaceted in ensuring that the reader understands the political, social, economic and health aspects in that time which had their own influences on events. Having been thoroughly bored by history at school, it is writers like Alison Weir who bring it to life and make it so compelling. Now just to decide which one to read next....which has to be Elisabeth The Queen.
a great insight to King Henrys childrens lives - Rated
I found this book fascinating, how all the children were brought up so differently and the very harrowing lives the lived. Alison Weir writes so well, a very well researched book.
Also published as The Children of Henry VIII - Rated
This book is also published under the title The Children of Henry VIII, so don't be caught out as I was, thinking they were two separate books. I would recommend buying the book under The Children of Henry VIII title, as the typeface is much larger, clearer and easier to read than under the Children of England title.
Entertaining and readable - Rated
I enjoyed this book -- it slaked my insatiable thirst for more information on not only the Tudor period in general but particularly Queen Mary whom I feel has been much less written about in fiction in particular than Elizabeth or even Lady Jane Grey. As a non-fiction book this was well written, informative and thoroughly entertaining. Alison Weir delights yet again with her fresh and readable approach. The human side of the stories of the Tudor heirs is tackled with enthusiasm and a compassion for human weakness tinged with the realistic admittance that some events and occurances were wrong or ill-judged. A wonderful read I would certainly recommend - I look forward to continuing my journey with Alison Weir into Elizabeth, the Queen!

This is an excellent book! I've read it dozens of times and it maintains its fascination. Weir's writing style is so fluid and easy to read that I've since bought many other titles written by her.
