Charming - Rated 5/5
This story was read to me as a little girl and I re-read it recently. It still has the same charm in adulthood, that it had in childhood. The story of a free spirited little girl who wants for nothing but friendship, freedom and a love of nature. It generally has a good moral to the story as well, which is that what you think maybe the right way isn't always and patience pays off, things happen the way they do for a reason. Thats what I felt I learnt from the story when I was young anyway. Just a nice story that can be enjoyed by old and young alike.

Love it - Rated 5/5
I really do adore this book. The story is based around a little girl called Heidi who is taken into the Swiss Mountains to live with her grandfather. Heidi is such a likeable character you can't help but feel drawn to her. This is a moving story which is exceedingly well written. Highly recommended.

A Classic - Rated 5/5
I read this book when I was a child (about 30 years ago) and loved it. I have recently read it again and it has lost none of its charm. A beautiful story that is difficult to put down once started.

Heidi - An view of 19th century German childhood - Rated 5/5
This is a book of its time, but it is also very interesting sociologically, as it tells us about German childhood in the mid 19th century. The chief protagonist, a little Swiss girl, is sent to the big city to be a companion to the invalid daughter of a wealthy family. Heidi's straightforward inner "goodness" and simple, unquestioning religious faith inspire those around her. There is a great deal of local colour, as the Alpine region is described in minute and fascinating detail. This is contrasted with the oppressive urbanisation of Frankfurt. This book gives us a very rosy picture of life as a nineteenth century child in the alpine region, in what could be quite a harsh environment. Despite the fact that it is quite formulaic and moralistic, it is extremely moving, which probably explains why it has stood the test of time. Try to see the film, which stars a very young Nicholas Lyndhurst as Peter.

A beautiful little story - Rated 5/5
I grew up with Heidi(in the 60's) and now pass it all on to my own children and I realise the story has lost nothing of its charm and wonder. My children love it as much as I ever did and still do.
