Funny in places, not bad - Rated
I read this as a bit of light relief from the normal crime novels that I read. It was funny in parts and easy to read, as other reviewers have said, it starts off well with the plans for revenge but then this does tend to ease up as the storyline focuses on Stephanie's new relationship. Her new boyfriend has zero personality and I couldn't take to him at all. As for the rest of the cast, Stephanie, James and Katie are reasonably well depicted, and generally it's a mildly amusing book, I did feel almost sorry for James at times, especially after the phone call to the London vets about the dead dog.
In summary, it's not the funniest book I've ever read but not a bad read.
Ladies...its get your own back time! - Rated
having read Getting Rid of Matthew in about 3 days, i was desperate to read the second novel of Jane Fallon, Got you Back, and i wasn't disappointed, despite the subtle similarities to the first novel. James, the husband who can't keep it in his pants, Stephanie, who plays the scorned wife ever so subtley, now having another to concentrate on, letting the mistress Katie take the lead in what was originally her revenge plan. Katie is originally perceived as a naive doormat, believing every word, or accurately, lie, that comes out of James's mouth, but once realising she has been taken for a ride, the nails really come out and the naivity falls away and the story begins to take you with it at momentum pace! i loved it! Couldn't put it down.
Good light read - Rated
I read getting rid of matthew and really enjoyed it. I would read it again. This book though is a little bit predictable but enjoyable. Definately worth a read but not as good as the first book!
Jane Fallon, Got You Back - Rated
Highly Recommended. Good Read. This is the first book I have read by Jane Fallon. I will definately be getting her other one, Getting Rid of Matthew. I found this book to be very good reading and felt that it could have been a true story at some point. Really easy reading and hard to put down and be patient enough to read through to the next step and not skipping pages to find out what happens next. Good story.
lightweight - Rated
Very disappointed with this book unfortunately. I found it to be lightweight and predictable with characters i didn't really care about or grow to like.. Having recently read 'The Post-birthday world' by lionel Shriver, which was so well written with proper 3 dimensional characters - this by comparison was like candy floss. It's typical of it's genre i guess, but considering the subject is basically about a cheating husband and the breakdown of a marriage, it felt so flippant and silly. It didn't make me laugh or feel any sadness for the characters. Dont bother - boring and contrived.
