Customer Reviews

Fantastic read - Rated 5/5
I was recommended to buy this book at the Edinburgh Book Festival and I have just finished reading Natasha's Will to my 8 yearold daughter, we have both enjoyed ever page and it has created a real interest in history surrounding the Russian Revolution.

Probably the best book I've ever read! - Rated 5/5
Natasha's will is a great book and I loved it. It is interesting to follow both Natasha's flight and the family's search for the will. The story changes between the two and it is very well done, you know exactly what is what.
The title is very gripping and it was mostly because of the title I bought the book. It tells you what the book is about without revealing too much information.

A brilliant fast-moving book - Rated 5/5
Natasha's Will - Joan Lingard.

This was an interesting and fast-moving book. It introduces the reader to life in Russia during the revolution.

It tells the story of a young girl called Natasha - a member of the Russian aristocracy (a 'White Russian') caught up in the revolution, and a Scottish family in the present day. Natasha escapes from Russia and finally settles in Scotland, living in a large house there.

The story begins after Natasha's death, and the family who looked after her in her old age are about to be evicted from her house. They believe that Natasha would have left the house to them, but can't find the will.

The author uses the device of flipping between the present and past for alternate chapters, which makes it fast-moving and holds the reader's attention. The story of Natasha's escape from Russia is interweaved with the family's search for her will. Natasha has left them clues which they follow.

The final resolution is very satisfying as the reader is always one step ahead of the family, which adds to the dramatic tension.
