Customer Reviews

Dire - Rated 1/5
Just In Case is the worst book I have read in a very long time. There is little storyline and the characters have no depth. I persevered reading this in the hope it would get better, but it didn't. Just In Case won the 2007 Carnegie book award, it should not have, it was the worst book in the whole selection. I felt like I wasted 3 hours of my life reading this, dont waste 3 hours of yours!

ok - Rated 2/5
this book did not live up to my expectations, having won so many awards and recieved rave reviewsi expected it to be excellent, however i waas dissaponted and found it slightly boring at times and the whole 'dodging fate' thing bored me immensly.

Engrossing and unpredictable tale of teenage angst filled with humor and surprise - Rated 5/5
Meg Rosoff's style of writing is as unique as the tales she tells. I found her first book How I Live Now so gripping I had to find more by this remarkable twenty-first century writer. Already this book is timeless, and i can't wait for more!

Can't stop thinking about this book! - Rated 5/5
If Catcher In The Rye was last century's 'it' book, Just In Case takes the stage for the 21st century! Rosoff speaks to issues that resonate across the ages- identity, fate, destiny. UNFORGTABLE

A Magical Young Adult Read - Rated 5/5
Meg Rosoff's first book set a high standard in almost day-to-day magic and whimsy, with added extreme emotional trauma. "Just in Case" continues the trend with just as much magic (preternaturally loquacious babies, Fate as one of the characters, and an imaginary dog that other people can see) but dialled-down emotional trauma. "How I live Now" thrust the heroine into World War Three; "Just in Case" deals with the more mundane life of an ordinary teenage boy, with twin obsessions of how to avoid fate when you're sure he's out to get you, and, of course, sex. The sexual content (mild, but definitely present) makes it more suitable for the teen market than younger readers. Recommended.
