Customer Reviews

It's impossible this book could win an award! - Rated 1/5
I bought this book at Heathrow airport being bored and thought this might be a really cool book to read on a flight. But as it turned out it was without any doubt the worst book I have ever read. It takes more than half the book for ANYTHING to happen. Then when something finally happends it just doesn't make sense. It's just like a dreamworld which the author has tried to make into the real world. I'm sorry to say it's a terrible book. Please don't read it.

Calling a dead man - Rated 4/5
Calling a dead man is one of Gillian Cross's best work, it is also the winner of the Carnegie medal, the Whitbread Award and the Smarties prize.

This book is a fast-moving thriller about two girls trying to find out the truth about the death of a brother and friend but the only problem is a group of men are trying to stop them. Suddenly one night the girls manage to get a signal from john's mobile phone which sets them off in hot pursuit or is it a wild goose chase.

I think that this book has a strong plot and contains very vivid descriptions of anything mentioned. This book should be aimed at 11-14 year old children, as the language is not too complex.

A very good book excellent for people who like mysteries!!! - Rated 4/5
Calling a Dead Man

The author of this book is Gillian Cross, She has written a number of other stories these are a few of them:
The Demon Headmaster, Wolf and the Roman bean feast.
All of them are very well written books.

This story is about a man who has stumbled out of the forest in Russia. The man has lost his memory and says he is on the run from some one who is out kill him.
The man meets a very business like person, that man tells him his name is John Cox.

In England Hayley Cox and her friend Annie are out to find Hayley's lost brother. He was said to have been killed in Russia. Hayley and Annie take a long planned trip to Russia to look at the place where Hayley's brother died. When their Annie and Hayley see something more about the building were Hayley's brother was said to die then what they were told.

A mysterious story excellent for people who like mysteries.
The only thing I disliked about the book was that it jumps back and forth a lot.

Wretham, J.

A thrilling read. But impossible to put down!!!!! - Rated 5/5
How did john cox die? his sister hayley thinks she knows, but she wants to see the place where it happened. With johns girlfriend Annie she travels to Russia to visit the site of the explosion that killed him.but they soon realize that there is more to johns death than meets the eye. And certain people are desperate to keep them from finding out the truth.

Meanwhile, deep in the wastes of Siberia, a man with no memory and high fever stumbles out of the forest into the hands of a young girl named Frosya!

This was a brilliant read, which was impossible to put down! - Rated 4/5
When Hayley finds that her brother John has been killed in an accident in Russia, she cannot believe that he'd make such a mistake. Neither does his disabled girlfriend, Annie. Together they travel to Russia to try and discover what really happened. When they arrive, Hayley keeps seeing a figure in the distance who reminds her of John. But who is he? Their quest for the truth leads them across Russia, through the bitter cold of Siberia and into danger.

This story was full of action and suspense which kept me wanting to read on. There were many clever twists and turns in the plot. Hayley's adventures in Russia came easily to life in this fantastic book!
