An enjoyable read. - Rated
i found this book by accident in a local secondhand book shop where it had been pushed to the back of the shelf, i decided to buy it as i liked the blurb and i'm glad i did. The story is of a young boy called Dax who after cruel treatment from his stepmother finds that he can Shapeshift into a Fox, the story follows his stransformation and what happens after which includes a special boarding school, a nosy reporter and a mystery that could lead Dax to his death. All in all i found this book to be fasinating, especially the concept of shapeshifting and how the author portrays Dax's confusion. I vote this book to be definatly a keeper!!

I was very pleased to read this book as it perfectly described the issues that shapeshifters have to contend with. Being a fox and a human is hard to get used to but it's not scary at all. This book accurately tells of the initial surprise and bafflement that a shapeshift causes, and presents the main character Dax as a likeable chap who starts as a human but certainly enjoys being a fox. The well described events and compelling pace of the plot allows the reader to appreciate the full nature of being able to be two shapes, with the wonderful overlap of instincts that develops. Following a scary shapeshifting incident at his school, a journalist becomes inquisitive as to what actually happened there. Dax is approached by mysterious government people and is hurriedly moved to a secret school for children with a variety of very special talents. He loves being there as he was not too happy at home, and the imaginative classmates with different powers lead to an immensely fascinating crowd. The journalist tracks him down and questions the reasons why the secret school exists, and Dax starts to wonder what's really going on? Every fox and human would enjoy this exciting adventure. I was so transfixed by it I just curled up under a tree and read the whole book. I'm so glad Ali Sparkes has further tails to tell.
The Shapeshifter bk. 1; Finding the Fox - Rated
I found this book extremely good, one of the best books that involve telekinetics as well as shapeshifters. The blurb is a little misleading as it made me think it only concerned shapeshifters, not clairvoyants. I found it to be well written and rather accurate when it came to describing the emotions and feelings of a 12 year old boy, and Ali Sparkes combined it perfectly with how you'd probably feel as a fox. The one down side is the constant mention of everything having a pre-ordained reason how the future can't be changed, how pessimistic is that? Anyway I found it a great read and I can't wait for the second one "Running the Risk"!
