A valuable and insightful book! - Rated
Whether you have taken underwater photos before or not, Martin Edge manages to provide a wealth of practical information in a friendly and unhurried way. Excellent quick tips, advice on techniques and equipment. And up to date! A must buy for any underwater photographer especially if you are just starting out. A real investment in your future as a underwater photographer.
The best U/W photography book, hands down! - Rated
I have purchased a few other books for U/W photography, but this one is by far the best. After reading the book, I was excited to try out some of the techniques in the water. Wow, what a difference they made in my photos. Recently I was on a liveaboard diving trip and loaned the book to another diver who was having trouble with achieving acceptable results with his point and shoot camera. It helped him so much that I could hardly pry the book out of his hands!
Purchase this book, you won't regret it.
So Impressive for underwater photographers of all standards - Rated
I thought that I had read all the best books on this subject. Howard Hall's book from the 80's, The late Jim Church book on underwater composition but this latest edition by Martin Edge is in my view the most comprehensive book written on the topic of underwater photography to date. I have read it from cover to cover and no subject appears to have been omitted. It contains so much advice, tricks of the trade and wisdom. It is a must have book and a great read for anyone interested. I just hope the publishers consider a PDF version for laptop use. I intend to try out the chapter on 'just below the surface' during my forthcomming trip to Florida.
3rd edition? Completely new book! - Rated
I have Martin's 1st edition and had no intention of buying an update to a book I already had. What a mistake! This book deals with all the issues that I could think of as I make the move from film to digital and so many more that I would never have considered.
That said, this is a book about taking photographs and does not get lost in any technical nerdiness.
It is concise, easy and enjoyable to read and will be travelling in my camera bag.
The definitive manual for underwater photographers - Rated
The Underwater Photographer Third Edition must be the definitive manual for underwater photographers. I do not wish to repeat previous reviews but I fully endorse their complimentary observations. I purchased this book when upgrading from an Olympus 5060 digital compact camera to a Nikon D200 digital SLR. I now realise that I wasted a lot of my time with my Olympus 5060 making numerous mistakes which could have been easily avoided if only I had purchased an earlier edition of this excellent book.
