Very out of date - Rated
May be this was useful 30 years ago, but I have to agree with the previous reviewer - not for the 21st century. Possibly helpful in places for those about to get married, but nothing much in it for those who have been married for a while. From the medical profession myself, I can confirm that much of the medical advice is totally out-dated now, and the book recomends some now obsolete practices.
There must be much better books out there than this.
If you live in the 21st century, look elsewhere - Rated
As a young married christian who has been married around four months I bought this book hoping it would be both encouraging and helpful in a practical as much as an emotional way. At the same time I also bought "A Celebration of Sex" by Douglas Rosenau. The differnce between the two could not be more marked. Whilst the LaHaye's insist on telling the complete history of psychological thinking on the issue of sex in an incredibly boring and frustrating manner and never quite getting to the point, Rosenau is practical and sensitive in his writing, covering everything the 21st century christian marriage might possibly need to know. This book can be judgemental and confusing and contains very little practical advice, unless you're having trouble with your pelvic floor muscles.
Seriously, unless you also want to read results from a scientific survey on sex conducted at some point during the 1980's do yourselves a favour and give this one a miss.
A must for every married couple - Rated
My husband and I started reading this book together a few months before we got married... it was informative and very helpful and got our married love off to an excellent start. Now almost eleven years down the line, our marriage is often referred to as an example to others - comments are made about how much we love each other and how it shows in every aspect of our relationship. We still often use this book as a reference and it has done the rounds of so many of our friends who have all been encouraged in their relationships, thinking they 'know-it-all' only to find out there is so much more! I would recommend this book to everyone about to be married, those just married and those already married for years!
A must buy - Rated
This book has completly changed the way I view sex in my marriage. If only I could have read this information before I got married. It is incredibly helpful and has sorted me out on so many issues that I have/had. You have to get it. It is fantastic that we can get the right Christian advise and this book gives it to you straight down the line. I have found the book liberating and it has set me free in so many areas. I can feel such a difference in my self.
The Act of Marriage - Rated
This is an extremely helpful book, I'd recommend Christian couples read it before marriage and then keep going back to it throughout your marriage. It opens the lines of communication about what sex means to each partner, how to give selflessly to your spouse and bring pleasure to them and gives helpful advice on how to overcome sexual problems. All this is in the context of God's design for a fulfilling marriage.
