Brilliant Book - Rated 5/5
This book is BRILLIANT. I wish I had found the time to read it years ago. As a committed Christian I found Yancey challenging me to reconsider many of my "evangelical assumptions". I was especially challenged regarding my attitude towards gay people and have followed this up by reading what other enlightened evangelicals have to say on the subject. Well done Yancey.

Something we all need to learn - Rated 5/5
In 'What's So Amazing About Grace?', Philip explores grace at very much street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, what does it look like in action? How do we go about showing grace to those around us?

Yancey asks some difficult questions, tells some interesting stories (which are a little motherhood and apple pie at times) but also challenges us as readers as to how we outwork our faith day to day.

great book

Will change how you live your life - Rated 5/5
This is my favourite book of all time- I have read it at least 8 times and each time come away with something new and feeling invigorated.

Yancy challenges the view that (sadly) many people have of Christians in the world- that is that we are legalistic and lack compassion and love. In this book, Yancy challenges Christians to really think (and more importantly ACT) in the manner that Jesus did.

The book is full of heart-breaking stories that challenge one's thinking. I don't think you can look at the world the same again after reading this.

A must read for all Christians!

(Anything by Yancy is tops on my list)

Good book - Rated 4/5
This really is an eye-opening book and it WILL change the way you think and the way you approach sin your own life and in others.

However, there has been a tendency in evangelical circles to treat this book as the 'definitive' book on Grace, which it is not. There are certain trains of thought which I do not agree with wholly, namely the suggestion that judgement of sin should be disregarded in favour of acceptance. That to me deviates too far away from scriptual teaching.

That aside, this is a thoroughly good read. Everyone should read it at least once!

Don't be put off reading this just because its popular - Rated 5/5
As my review title suggests I had this book sitting on my shelf for ages. I had heard people rave about it, but that really put me of reading it because so often I am dissapointed by the quality and content of books that become "popular" amongst christians. I tend to find ( feel free to disagree ) that what appeals is the lowest common denominator.

However this is different.

Yancy tackles the issue of how we are to respond to others in the light of the way that God responds to us in a way which is both theologically deep and totally practical, encouraging us to see others through the eyes of a God who has forgiven us without demand.

It is a great book, and I challenge anyone to read it and not be changed in the way they think of being gracious towards others in the light of how God has been gracious towards them.

Enjoy
