best one yet - Rated 5/5
after the disappointment of death dance this one i couldn't put down, her best book from the last 9 shes written, i think it is goood that she explains the history of NY as it makes you feel as though you are in the book with her and helps you relate. i look forward to the next one and hope its as good.

Cracking Murder Mystery - Rated 4/5
Having read most of Linda Fairstein's books I found this one to be as good as all the others. The story moves along well and there is enough in here to keep the reader interested. Bodies pile up with their usual intensity and the finale has enough tension to take you completely by surprise. I loved the descriptions of all the historical sights and felt that they were appropriate and necessary for the storyline to develop. The plot is well written and just when you think you are getting a handle on things, another twist of the plot bowls you over. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars is because I thought a couple of places were just a little bit slow, but otherwise this is a well written book with an excellent storyline. I would highly recommend it, and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

Disappointing - Rated 2/5
Having read all the previous Alexandra Cooper thrillers I eagerly anticipated this new one.
I was however bitterly disappointed to discover that about one third of the book was given over to both historical and geographical facts about New York.
Although this might be interesting in a different context it is entirely superfluous in a work of fiction.
It as if the author is saying "look how clever I am researching all these facts".

Another cracker for Fairstein - Rated 4/5
I love Linds Fairstein's novels, the stories always appear life-like and real and this novel is no different. Alex Cooper is a New York sex crimes prosecutor (Linda Fairstein was the ADA for sex crimes in Manhattan before retiring to continue her writing)who works tirelessly to bring justice to those who are victims of sex crimes. she works hand in hand with the two other main characters Chapman - New York homicide detective and Mercer - a detective with the Special Victims Unit. The novels full of interesting facts about New York and the legal system there. I often have to remind myself that these are novels as they read as if they were taken straight out of the authors past cases(which is not the case) This is the 8th novel in the series which in involves a cold case which can now be closed with the introduction of DNA and a series of murders which leads all three characters to the dark unfamiliar islands surrounding the Manhattan area to help catch equally dark perpetrator.

Exciting! - Rated 4/5
I love how Linda Fairstein gets me all stressed up, start to read at ten in the evening, smooth start in some trial or another, and no sleep for hours -then!!! car crashers! weird wanderings around Manhattan, strange cottages in New Jersey....
But the best is the story of New York she always tells, history and places, I Google all the time I read the books.
"Killer Heat" is about islands, not Manhattan, but lots of other islands around New York, with lots of secrets. And trust Coop, Chapman and Mercer to investigate them all. And I sit there in the middle of the night enjoying, sweating and learning.
She just gets better all the time!
