Customer Reviews

What a turkey!!! - Rated 1/5
Horrible little book I bought in despertaion at some airport. Please save yourself the money of buying this. Just a run of the mill travel book with vague attempts at humour but more often just boring.

The first reviewer said it all! - Rated 2/5
I too was disappointed by this book, I had really enjoyed his previous books but I found this one very hard going. To be frank it was 'almost' boring and the jokes were very predictable.

Cut down the jokes, Mr Pearson - Rated 3/5
Having really enjoyed all of Mr Pearson's work before, especially The Far Corner, I was so looking forward to his virtual journey around the globe. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointment as, in my view, he doesn't know if he is writing a travel book or a comedy routine. Whilst, and Bill Bryson is a supreme example, jokes can be an enhancement of the prose it doesn't pay to overdo them as they can become somewhat tedious. I wish also he would rise above the scatalogical. His journey, reflecting as it does places he admits to not having been before, becomes too bogged down in the ex-Soviet republics and I think there is only so much one can say or bear to read about them all. I know he can do better - let's hope the next one proves the point.
