couldnt put it down!!! - Rated
really enjoyed this. this is the first of meg cabot books that she has written for adults and she totally got it bang on. totally identified with main character as i graduated 5 years ago and i still have no idea what i wanna do. felt lizzie was a very true to life character.
the story flowed so well and you couldnt put it down. a very honest representation of a 22 year old female just entering the world!!!
Very Breathless!! - Rated
I read this book in a day (well a day and a bit) because i seriously couldn't put it down. And i don't mean that in a metaphorical way i mean it flowed so easily and moved so quickly that there never seemed a right moment in the narrative to take a break! Reading this novel was like shopping in the trafford centre, on a very unique sale day, where everything is something you like; even though sometimes u might want to stop because your feet are hurting or because you're hungry and want to stop for food or a drink you know that there is something wonderful around the corner and you just can't stop yourself. You think "right after this chapeter i'll put it down, oh no wait i'll just read this bit."
It's bittersweet really because while the book is so entertaining and so breathless it pulls you along with it and you enjoy yourself, i read it so quickly that it was over, done, and there was nothing more left to read, no more of the story to discover and no more laughs to be had. I don't read Meg Cabot's children's stories and i'm of the same age group as the people in the book 23, and like the main character i'm desperately trying to finish my degree (i have a point i promise!) so the swearing and the sex scenes (there are only 2, although i'm not sure you could call one of them a sex scene) didn't bother me. But the way Lizzie thinks and the way she acts i relate to very much, Meg cabot has captured very well the soul of a 22 year old overly energetic young girl. And although the main characters are all american it isn't as annoying as you might think as the american quirks are the funny ones we like and they are kept to a minimum so lizzie is indeed very likeable. And the plot is very funny although obviously it follows along in all the classic chick lit traditions (come on we all knew who she was gonna end up with!). But we all love it. You don't pick up a chick lit book expecting your world to be changed but they are fabulous and deserve way more respect than the term chick lit implies.
A very fun, quick, breathless, chicky-type read. Won't change your world, will entertain and keep you interested, and the quotes at the beg of each chapter are very smile inducing.
Could have been better - Rated
Meg Cabot is a fab writer but sadly this book really lacks in her usual fun and romantic style. Like another reviewer said the storyline is very slow to begin with - it was so slow and so very dull that I gave up on page 34! I also found the sexual references and swearing too much. There is at least one f word on every page, so definitely not one for the young fans in your house! I was really disappointed as Meg Cabot writes really enjoyable books for both her teen and adult audiences and sadly this book has degenerated into a mess of sex and swearing. A shame, as the storyline on Amazon holds such promise!
Not her best - Rated
As an avid reader of Meg Cabot's books in my early teens, I was delighted to find she'd written books for adults, too! So after reading some of her earlier adult novels (The Guy Next Door; Every Boy's Got One; Boy Meets Girl) I was really looking forward to reading this one. I wasn't expecting anything too different from her other stuff: light-hearted, easy-to-read, soppy romance novels- it's what Meg Cabot does best. And while the book does fit that criteria, somehow I didn't enjoy it as much as her earlier novels. It starts slowly, with perhaps too much focus on something not really that relevant to the story, after which it seems to zoom past the actual plot-line with too much speed, limiting its believability.
That said, it's Meg Cabot, and any one of her fans will get some degree of enjoyment out of reading it. Good for curling up with on a miserable day!
