Brothers Anthony and Damien have just moved into a new house after the death of their mother. Damien the younger and more religious one built an Hermitage made from cardboard boxes and tape by a railway track and all of a sudden a bag of money falls from the sky. He thought it had come from heaven.
Damien tells his brother and they decide not to tell their father. Damien wants to give the money to charity and people in need, but his older brother Anthony has other plans, he wants to spend it on games consoles, TVs and lots of other crazy boy's toys. They try to exchange the money before the euro currency comes to England so they try to spend it as quickly as they can and bank some of the rest of the large amount. They go round all the different banks to change the money to euros. When they have all the money Damien promises that he will give some money to a tramp called "Glass eye" but Anthony tells Damien not to because Anthony is stranger wise. Glass eye chases the boys even through the Christmas play.
I enjoyed this book because it was very humorous it was quite unusual and it made me think what I would have done if I had found the money.

The world of young Daniel Cunningham is turned upside down when a sports bag full of money (£229,370) comes crashing down into his self-made playhouse that has been constructed in a park near a train line. He lets his elder brother Anthony in on the secret of the swag and between them they try and decide what to do with it. But time is running out, for England is about to join the Euro, and when it does, the money will no longer be valid currency.
As you would probably expect, a story that involves lots of money and children is highly steeped in morals, including the merits of truth and love, as well as the priceless quality of friends and family. The author effortlessly presents `adult' situations in an accessible and readable manner and yet at the same time illustrates how any situation can have its advantages and disadvantages.
Most likely for Year 5 and 6, the book gives very obvious opportunities of discussions and literature circles, where pupils are asked questions such as, `What would you do if you were Daniel?' and `Why do you think [character] did [action]?'.

I bought this for my daughter and ended up reading it first! I started flicking through it in the bookshop, and then read the first three chapters on the bus on the way home. I loved it.
The story is about two brothers, Damian and Anthony. It is written as if by Damian and tells how his obsession with the saints (mostly their gory ends) leads him to build his own hermitage at the side of a railway line. One night when he is in there trying to become more saintly a large bag of money falls off a train into his hermitage. He thinks it is a gift from God and takes it home.
So, what do two young boys do with £229,000 in used bank notes? Especially when one wants to use it to climb the rungs to sainthood and the other wants to invest it in property and become a tycoon? Read it and find out.
It's clever, funny, touching and brilliantly written. It actually moved me to tears in places. An amazing book.
