Customer Reviews

Ridiculous, terribly written - Rated 1/5
The basic story/premise is reasonably good, but that's about all.
The weaknesses far, far outweigh any strength in this book.
Most (in fact all) of the characters have no personalities whatsoever and are merely (barely)in the background, waiting to have their heads/bodies shot to pieces. In fact, the author's obsession with graphic violence is infantile. So too are the action sequences, which go on for far too long. And most of the action sequences are so improbable as to be utterly ridiculous.

The writing style is absolutely dreadful; in fact it reads as if written by a fifteen year old. Come to think of it, the writing style is one of the worst aspects of this book.

This book didn't have to be this way. The quest for the old Inca idol and the narrative use of the backstory (flitting to the 16th century) was quite a good idea. There are some cool aspects of the plot, in terms of the locations, and some of the unusual events that take place in the story.

Unfortunately, though, Matthew Reilly has taken a good idea and written such a juvenile product that I doubt that I will read any more of his books. I know this is not meant to be serious literature, but there are plenty other thriller type books that have more likeable/interesting characters and are far better written.

Are you reading the same Temple as me?? - Rated 5/5
Ok everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but..

This book deserves nothing short of 5 Stars, i'm not going to go into as much detail as the other reviewers may have, we all have a day to get on with.

The idea of two stories which are hundreds of years apart, being told in one book (with the oldest effecting events in the present) deserves alot of credit in itself. With it being a book consisting of more than 600 pages i cannot express every nitty gritty in this review.

If your into an action/thriller this is the book for you. If your a squeemish, lovey dovey individual, steer clear..

beware of the beast within, when is not for entering... - Rated 3/5
First half of the book gone by so quickly, non-stop action. Loads of maneater 'cats' and god-eater spaniards. And in some part, star wars weapons 'G-11'. The tricky part of it and i dunno how I can visualize Race got away with taking out the helicopter by a rope swing... well dare to understand thats how MR write his stuff and I must say is still something we learn to take from an author of this kind of action-story-pages. I will dig in on the 2nd half of the book. More blood in this one though...wait up Race, you not a hero yet.

Come to the end of this book...have to say quite a story. Pack with action and even in its 2 part tale. One new one old. Very well written and connected. Hero (now the hero) Race is quite steam with action even though he is not train to be one. Guess he is the chosen one and had to do all that to save the world. Same sgit as NEO in Matrix. Some great high-tech written weapons and equipments...equipments that save last moment of life like diving from the sky. Loads of enemies from various department simply they are Nazi, US Army (Nash), US Navy (Romario), The Texan (doomsday cult). Even the Native Incas has a part in it to save the idol.

This a complete thing for this book. MR has once again did well and I hope to read more about William Race in the next book adventure. I give it a 7.8/10 for this one.

This is a cruel joke - Rated 1/5
It doesn't take any writing skill to write fantastical nonsense which makes it all the more surprising that this drivel can get published. I tried, I really did, but standing on a jet ski traveling through a flooded rainforest at 60 knots while picking off nazi's on a speeding boat so is far from reality that a 12 year old boy would be thinking he's gone to far. It says something when your hoping for the book's hero to meet an untimely end.

Excellent escapism - Rated 5/5
I mainly read this book on the London Underground journey to and from work and I have to say it made a very boring journey enjoyable. Yes its far fetched, but so is James Bond, Die Hard and any action book or film you care to name.

Temple moves along at a cracking pace and the main character is interesting enough to keep you rooting for him all the way till the end.

If your going on a boring journey and want something to while away the hours, you won't go far wrong with this or any of Matt Reilly's other books.
