This is a great, easy to read and well organised book. Fisher provides some great chapters including the role of the adult, the place of play, the importance of working with others, planning, learning and the curriculum and the high scope approch. Im studying a degree in Early Childhood Studies and found this book usefull for my module the early childhood curriculum. I think everyone working with children will find this book usefull, as Fisher always refers back to clasroom practice.
This is a must have book.

Am studying the Level 3 Diploma In Pre-School Practice to help me support the children better as working in a joint Reception/Year 1 class. Have had this book on loan from the library for 6 months, but want my own copy! Has been a fantastic book for my course and will be for my future studies!

Clearly one of the best books on Early Years, Julie Fisher brings to the subject a wealth of experience. Her triangle diagnram outlining a possible balance of classroom activities between adult and child-led activities (and she is very clear about which can be called "play"!) is one of the best expositions of what adults might do in the Early Years class. This is a classic text; I don't know any Early Years teacher, nursery nurse or student who hasn't felt bettr for reading it.
