Fantastic - Rated 5/5
Firstly, this book is aimed at 'Young Adults' - but don't let that put you off! What a fantastic read and definitely worth of its (current) 5 star overall rating!

Morgan's writing is beautiful (especially since at times she's describing fairly squalid surroundings!) and very descriptive about life for Robbie and his family and their struggle to survive. Robbie's desire for revenge against the man who, in his opinion, killed his mother builds and builds - will he come to his senses before it's too late?

The Scottish dialect can take a bit of careful reading by us Sassenachs at times, but for me that only added to the atmosphere and the telling of the story!

Scotish history drenched in imaculate writing skills and dripping in page turning fury - Rated 5/5
Fleshmarket, by Nicola Morgan is an unusual story, based on real life characters, dates and prejudices in the 1800s. However don't let the book's historial herritage put you off. Based in Edinburgh in the 1800s, Morgan takes her own approach to liven up the old story of Dr Knox and his illegal dealings with Hare and Burke.

Robbie, who lost his mother at the hands of Dr Knox when she recieved surgery to remove her cancerous brest, is out for revenge. His life is full of ups and downs and his life's path finds numeous ways to cross his enemy's path, Dr Knox. Filled with fixation to get revenge on Knox, Robbie's life takes uncharted dips in it's quality each time he meets Knox.

Can he ever break away from this hate or will he just carry on living this nothing life for the rest of his days?

Fleshmarket is an ideal book for all ages and genders. I found my usually hard to please mum wraped up in the contents of this uplifting book. Dr Knox is a well known figure from our past and also the familularity of the names Burke and Hare give the unpleasant feeling you've ben told this story at the dead of night before.

Josh from Perth strongly recommends this! - Rated 5/5
What a title! It really opens your eyes to what is inside.

Shock! Horror! The first chapter is great. It sets the scene and gives you a sense of the horrible events to come. Throughout the book Robbie becomes mentally stronger. However, he also gains an almost insane edge around Dr Knox. This book is truly a thriller and it carries an abundance of excitement on every page. This is the sort of book you read over and over again.

Breath Taking - Rated 4/5
I picked up this in a 3 for 2 special offer, and I couldn't put it down, it combines real life history with clever imagination to give a fantastic story. Set in the Nineteenth century it focuses on a family and the coping with death. Robbie tries to understand the meaning of why and how someone can be allowed to die whilst attempting to keep his family together in extreme poverty.

Don't let the title put you off, it's definitely worth a read and once you've read this one, you might like to try Nicola Morgan's other book "Mondays are Red" which is equally as compelling.

really enjoyed reading this - Rated 5/5
Fleshmarket is a book that I really enjoyed reading. It is about how a boy called Robbie, who was about to move into a big fancy house and was taking violin lessons, loses his mother after an operation and then plunges into poverty. For years he mourns his mothers death until by chance he sees the surgeon (Dr Robert Knox) and becomes hell bent on revenge.

The three things that I liked the most about this book were the way that Robbie and his mother’s operations were written with almost the same words, the fact that Nicola Morgan used real characters such as Dr Knox and Burke and Hare and the way that the book goes a full circle because it starts with Robbie’s Mum’s operation and ends with an operation with Robbie as the surgeon.
