Having been an avid reader of McNnab & Chris Ryan, i thought i'd look at something else while waiting for either author to release a new read. I chanced upon Stephen Leather and have since bought a whole load of his books. Brilliant plots, superb twists and turns - true thriller, come military/police novels. Expertly written - and i will never look back. The Dan Shepherd mystery series is superb, I'm just waiting for the next installment!!!
Superhuman Spider - Rated
I happened upon Stephen Leather by chance some years ago and always find room for him in my holiday suitcase. He compares favourably with other thriller writers although very few of my friends have ever read him. I like the character of Spider although he does at times appear almost superhuman. The dual plot in this Dead Men was clever and as ever laced with a contemporary theme. Whilst rooting for Spider I cannot say the same for Richard Yokely whom we have met before and who is undoubtedly based on or a collaboration of some sinister government fixer either in the UK or the US. If you want a true page-turner to while away those lazy hours in the sun (in my case) then Stephen is your boy!
Still good but........ - Rated
I think this character is running out of steam, but its still good to hear how he is doing. When does the au pair get her time off? She seems to be on duty 24/7. Thats a bit unrealistic, especially when there is no hint of a romance between them. I like that, it would be too cliched to have that scenario.
solid and entertaining - Rated
Stephen Leather provides another adventure with Dan "Spider" Shepherd as once again he goes undercover on behalf of the Government. While he is tracking the potential killer of ex IRA operatives, his boss is the target of middle Eastern revenge...
The spider novels hit a high with the previous one and it was going to be hard to maintain the standard but this is a solid and entertaining thriller, easily as good as Ryan or McNab. An easy and fun read.

Leather delivers another great Spider adventure. Here we have 2 plots which as expected converge with Spider and a whole host of action. Spider is undercover in Belfast watching/ getting close to a widow who is suspected of taking revenge on a group of ex-IRA guys who killed her husband. At the same time his boss Button, and the covert U.S. black ops Yokely are on an rich Arab's hitlist. I gave 3 stars as I preferred the tension from Hot Blood.
