Until just this moment I didn't know this was a sequel to another book. I only read this one.I just couldn't understand all the hype. Best-selling novel!! Why?? I found the voice and the writing really simple. She was so tight lipped about her feelings that I found it hard to relate to her in any way. She would pass over details I thought were important and then all of a sudden mention a big part of her life from out of no where. I didn't get this book. I was expecting something completely different and was really disappointed. I started thinking that as long as you have a horrible back ground and make something of yourself later in life you too can have a best selling novel... even if you can't write that well. I figure if I can write well, but come from a pretty good background, maybe I can have some success too...Levels out that way? Maybe I need to read Ugly now to figure out all the excitement around this book... but I will go to the library to and loan it out.
Waste of time - Rated
How very very disapointing, I want my money back!! I couldn't wait to purchase this book but I am so disappointed with the contents, it starts off alright but then it just goes on and on and on about her court appearance and her clients - It is nothing like the first book, I wanted to know more about her mother and her family but there was no mention at all. I really can't understand why Contance wrote this book, unlike the first book this one is so boring.
Very Disappointing - Rated
I was greatly looking forward to the release of this book, pre-ordering, should have guessed when the published date was delayed. Beyond Ugly gave the impression the author striggled with the sequeal with little content with could easily have been included in ugly.
No need - Rated
Usually I read a book within a week but this sequel was uncalled for. I think all the information in the second book could have been condensed into the first book. There was no insight into what happened with her family apart from the few times she saw her father. This whole book was generally about cosmetic surgery and her trying to break into the law world. I was really looking forward to this book coming out but have found it a real disappointment.
fascinating read - Rated
Unlike the previous reviewers I found this book truly inspirational. The fact that Constance managed to stay alive and well whilst funding her way through a law career is remarkable. This book does not deal directly with the childhood abuse but deals with how Constance dealt with adult life as a result of her abuse.
Constance Briscoe has sheer grit and determination and is an example to all under priviledged children. She shows the reader that despite her poor start in life, worse than most of us can imagine she still found a way OUT.
The chapters dealing with her reasons to have plastic surgery are heartbreaking and to go through all her procedures with no moral support is unthinkable. But Constance is not a lady to sit and feel sorry for herself. She is a lady who took the hand life had dealt her which was very poor and made her own success through sheer hardwork, determination and plenty of spirit.
She would be a good role model for some of today's young people.
I would definitely recommend this follow up book by Constance Briscoe.
