when i finished this book i nearly cried because it was over.Aly is a bit oversure of herself but this was still very good. Quite why this was so gripping im not sure but i do know it really worked. Until this book, tamora pierce always seemed good, but there was something missing which is perfectly there in this book. for some reason, the Copper isles reminds me of australia but dont ask
feminist issues!!! - Rated
i dont know why but since beginning my a-levels i have been analysing them to all the subjects i am taking, and it comes across as tamora pierce is a radical feminist! All of her books reflect this.
when i first discovered alanna's adventures had continued in her daughter Alyanne, i couldn't believe it! the same dilemma's arose in these two books as in the quartet, about love, service and family.
i beleive that tamora pierce has struck gold with her tortal world, and i really wish that there was more of george around, he is so handsome, and very sly, i would love to read about a young george and see things from his prspective.
Anyway sorry me rambling on....
in the latest installment from the realms of tortal, Aly and the Balitang family are back in the copper isles ruled over the ever so annoying power hungry regents.
Sarai has enough and runs off to carthak leaving the hopefull people is shatters feeling there is no escape from the rule of the war mongering regents. however will dove be their saviour?
Also the pressure between aly and nawat is hell, i hated it when he kept blowing hot and cold on her and vice versa, i just wanted them to snuggle down, but i did have thoughts about aly having a bit of fun with the commander of the king's gaurd! anyone else agree?
Overal i really did enjoy this book, but i do prefer the lioness quartet i think they are everyone's favourite.
maybe she should spice it up with a few affairs in the next book? Alanna and jon again??? i dont know....just ignore my rambling
Overal well done once again Tamora Pierce.
Trickster's Queen: A Review - Rated
This is a book that seems to have a lot of mixed feelings from fans; some love it unconditionally whilst others aren't happy about how some of the characters were treated and feel that they were marginalised.
The book starts a couple of months after the end of Trickster's Choice in the spring (April 23, 463 HE to be precise) with Aly and the Balitang family returning to Ramjuat and to the Rittevon Court. Upon arrival they are thrown into a world of political turmoil, with a boy-King sitting on the throne. As they are now so close to the line of succession the whole Balitang family has to tread carefully- this sits better with certain members of the family than others. Saraiyu is restless and after the events of Trickster's Choice seems to have lost her head to the subtle game of politics. Dovasary comes into her own in this book, as she mingles with people from other classes and offers her thoughts and opinions to the Rebellions plots. Aly, meanwhile, is kept busy making sure that the rebellion isn't discovered and that they have ears everywhere.
The book is fast paced, and whilst some of the character development I don't necessarily agree with, it is still a good read. Character development is integral to the plot, which you think at the beginning of the book will be pretty straight forward but it's not. There are plenty of twists and turns that will keep any reader hooked.
Review of Trickster's Queen - Rated
This is real page turner. Tamora Pierce carries on in style from Trickster's Choice and takes Aly into the dangerous tasks of becoming an unknown spymaster. There is a great plot twist with one of the characters that turns the plot around and there is blossoming romance between Nawat and Aly which gives suckers like me the aah factor. A must read for fans and if you aren't reading her novels yet, then you should give it a whirl but do read Trickster's choice first to get full appreciation of characters yet the book can still be read on its own as Pierce gives a brief backlog at th beginning of what has happened before...perhaps for those with less time!
Liked it a lot. - Rated
I really liked this, because the heroine is not the normal sort of adventurous girl who gets into scrapes. She plans and schemes and helps the good guys to win by manipulating the bad guys. She's really controlled and she always knows what she is doing. The only thing she can't control is falling in love, which is really sweet. Also, I liked how the world was set, because the cultures were really unusual and different. The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is that there's not THAT much romance - it's all kind of secondary, and then the hero goes away, and then he comes back and that's that. And I didn't cry at the end like I did with 'Lioness Rampant', even though there were some sad bits in the final battle. But this is still really good.
