Three Pillars of Zen - Rated 5/5
I first read Roshi Philip Kapleau book on the summer of 1980. I feel it is still one of the most informative books wriiten on Zen Buddhism. I am sure it must be considered a classic by now. I find myself pulling this book off my shelf every few years and re-reading it. I feel that it is one of the few books written that introduce westerner's to the journey along the road of zen.

The three pillars of Zen - Rated 3/5
Certainly not for the beginner.I found I had to look up the words at the back if the book before I could finish the paragraph. It would be a good book for the more experienced

An excellent all-rounder. - Rated 5/5
This book gives detailed instructions for zazen practice, and encouraging accounts of kensho experiences. The contents reflect a tradition that is a balanced blend of both the soto and rinzai schools of thought. The Three Pillars is essential reading for any home practioner who does not have access to a zen teacher.

Difficult to find words to describe this book. - Rated 5/5
I am not a Buddhist, simply a human being seeking to know his true nature (please forgive the use of the word "seeking" :-). That said, I find this book to be revelatory in nature, a work for which there are no words. Even if you never have an intention to practice zazen, and are a Hindu or a Vedantist or a streetwalker or a businessman or a murderer, if you want to know who you are, this book will point you toward the moon and beyond.
