A feisty flight through magnificent scenery and worrying weather. - Rated
This is a lovely picture book about a sassy tiger in a charming little red plane who's determined to deliver her letters despite stormy weather conditions. The real strength of this book lies in its wonderful warm and detailed illustrations - a mix of magnificent architectural "shots" of imaginative cityscapes, jungle scenes that puts me in mind of Rousseau's Tiger in a Tropical Storm, and darkly atmospheric tempestuous skies. My children enjoy spotting the little touches, such as the pelicans' bowler hats and three piece suits, and particularly enjoy lingering over an interesting illustration showing an X-ray/cut-through of the plane including it's Tiger pilot. Fortunately though they do eventually move on - to reach their favourite double page picture of the city lit up at night,a truly magical view.

Beautifully illustrated, I enjoy poring over this book as much as my son does, I had to buy it for all his friends too!
Adventure Story with lavish illustrations - Rated
Once upon a time a few brave pilots in little planes flew the Air Mail.
No wind, no rain, no cold or flu,
Can stop the Air Mail getting through!
The meticulous illustrations and a daredevil tiger for a heroine make this aviation story stand out. Sadie, an unflappable pilot with orange eyes, welcomes dangerous missions. Young readers with a sense of adventure in their souls will love this entertaining picture book. Richly illustrated throughout with highly detailed paintings,
the rich palette of deep red, forest green, honey gold and gravy brown emphasizes the book's 1930s aesthetic.
This is a lovely, flowing story and children enjoy its excitement without realising that they are actually following quite a complicated tale. Highly recommended.
