Customer Reviews

A delight - a must-have for lovers of France & French food. - Rated 5/5
This book is a delight. Even to read it takes you into the heart of France, it's markets & kitchens. All the recipes I have tried were a success, but there is also a thread running through of life in a warm French family, it is as good a read as Joanne's novels.

For All Lovers of Food and France! - Rated 4/5
A delightful book in which Joanne shares with us ‘her family
recipes, passed down through the generations. From her
Grandmother’s ‘Festival Loaf’, to traditional French classics
such as ‘Moules Mariniere’ of ‘Boeuf en Daube’, ‘The French
Kitchen’ is a tantalising collection of casseroles, soups,
roasts, salads, tarts and sweets. A collaboration between a
writer who loves food and a former chef who loves writing
about food, ‘The French Kitchen’ gathers together simple yet
stylish recipes from the heart of a French family.’

256 pages high quality, shiny pages split over 8 chapters:-
Salads, Soups and Savouries, Fish, Poultry, Meat, Vegetables,
Desserts and Chocolate, sandwiched between an
Introduction and an Index of Recipe Titles & Conversion
Tables.

Superb full colour photography throughout.
Our reviewers loved the recipe for ‘Fillet Steak with Tarragon’,
‘a simple but effective way of preparing steaks, dating back
to the 17th Century’, taking just 10 minutes to prepare and
the same again to cook and 'Crunchy Roast Duck with Turnips', using legs instead of breast, therefore creating an economical meal.
Other favourites were:-
‘Gratin Dauphinois’ - the ultimate potato dish, ‘Tarte au
Citron’ (Lemon Tart), ‘Salmon in Red Wine’, an unusual
combination but a rich, earthy dish which accompanies
pasta really well, and ‘Potée Auvergnate’ (Smoked Ham
Winter Pot) - a traditional French country dish.
However, the favourite chapter was.........’Chocolate’!
‘Chocolate Pot’ is ‘pure indulgence of the highest order', but
‘Gateau Lawrence’ is simply the best, rich chocolate cake
recipe we have ever tried! It is so rich, only a sliver is
required! Bookmark pages 224/225 for when your copy
arrives!
‘Easy Chocolate Ice Cream’ and Chocolate Fondue’ share
two pages and are easily adapted for children and adults
alike!
‘The French Kitchen : A CookBook’ is exceptionally good
value for money, on Amazon, today!

The first bite is with the eye - Rated 5/5
And this cookbook is a visual delight - wonderful photography and a lovely read. The french onion soup recipe is fantastic - I've only made four or five recipies so far but have loved them all. I'll be putting their second book on my Christmas list.

Delicious - Rated 5/5
Excellent book with easy to follow recipes. The blueberry tart is simple to make and has not let me down once. Worthwhile for those who love good quality home cooking with fresh ingrediants.

mmmm! - Rated 4/5
I purchased this book because I've read most of Harris' novels and was really intrigued by the food she describes. This isn't just an ordinary cookbook! For people like me, who are just starting to experiment with new recipes, this is an excellent book because it isn't just a list of ingredients and instructions. It is full of tips that you wouldn't find in your ordinary recipe book, and it makes you feel like your grandmother is explaining a traditional family recipe which you can't wait to try!
I bow in front of the chocolate section. You simply won't be able to resist these recipes!
