Book Details / Review - supplied by Amazon UK

There's always room for another fantasy quest trilogy--as long as it has distinction, originality and a cracking plot. Eragon has. This is the first book in Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Trilogy, which he began writing when aged only 15, is an amazing debut that demonstrates a written maturity beyond its creator's years. Any rough edges borne through inexperience are quickly forgiven as his story takes the reader on an imaginative journey by way of a host of likable and interesting characters and several breathtaking and dramatic sequences of high fantasy.

Eragon's adventure begins when he is out hunting one day in the mountainous region of his world known as the Spine. While eyeing-up a tasty deer with his bow, his aim is disturbed by a polished blue stone that explodes from the sky and narrowly misses him. The oval shaped object, cool and frictionless to his touch, weighs several pounds and it turns out to be his only reward from his day's hunting session. Returning to his home town Carvahall, Eragon's unsuccessful attempts to exchange the stone for meat for his family begins a run of bad luck that will eventually force him to flee his place of birth. This heralds the beginning of a new destiny for him.

The stone is in fact a dragon's egg and it hatches in Eragon's company--making him the first new Dragon Rider for many years. Suddenly, the fate of the Empire rests in his hands and he must navigate a dark and dangerous terrain, and some formidable enemies, to challenge the might of a king whose evil is limitless.

Despite its classic quest format there are enough new ideas and twists and turns to make it stand out among its legion of competitors in the genre. Eragon begins a bigger story that continues with the follow-up Eldest. Suitable for readers aged 12 and over. --John McLay

Eragon - Rated 5/5
2-3 years ago I was browsing the selves in the public library looking for some chunky fantasy to kill my spare time on. I didn't think for one minute that I was checking out something that would keep me so on the edge of my seat and have me practically obsessed with checking for release dates of Eldest and now Brisingr. The trilogy has been amazingly un-put-downable so far and I class it as totally unmissable for any fantasy/dragon/adventure/quest enthusiast out there. Read this!!!

Just a question... - Rated 4/5
Why on EARTH is this version of the book so expensive? I know one of them is signed by the author and it costs £1.700 (Which is hugely overpriced)But why does the other ones cost so much?

Oh, right... The book was great!

Great - Rated 5/5
If you enjoy dragons, fanatasy and adventure then you NEED to read this book.
It's very gripping; a real page turner. The characters are fanatastic, and Eragon is a great hero.
Read the book before you watch the film; the book's way better, and seeing the film might spoil the wonderful experience that you get from reading the book.
If you liked books like The Saga of Darren Shan, Wolf Brother, Percy Jackson or The Bartimaus Trilogy, then you must read this.

Get over it! - Rated 4/5
Yes i acknowledge that Eragon contains bits and pieces from other stories, but the fact that you are sad enough to READ a star wars book is just unimaginable. I tried to read a star wars book once, i read one page and lost what was happening! That's how confusing it is, if you like fantasy read this book, but if your sad enough to read a star wars book and enjoy it then don't even bother to try and read it and then write a review about it! *Sigh* Eragon is a compelling book and grips you from the start if you're impatient then you will struggle because there is a lot of travelling. There are flaws within the book but nonetheless they make no actual difference to the story. Unless you're a sad act idiot who enjoys star wars books! Well i think i've taken out my rage on the keyboard!

great story, not so great writing - Rated 3/5
This is definitely not better then the Harry Potter series. You cannot compare the writing. JK Rowling is by far the more superior writer. But, I cannot say that both Eragon and Eldest are not fantastic stories. Paolini is young and his writing shows it. Much of Eragon seems to have been written by a high school student which is not surprising, as he was just 15 when he began the story. What is surprising is that he didn't get a better editor. A good editor could have made the difference -- this could have been great literature and not just a great story. Paolini could be a Tolkein or Rowling in the making - but only if he gets some good tutelage and listens. I would love to see his writing mature ... if it caught up with his imagination, he would indeed be phenomenal!
