Breathtaking adventure - Rated
This is an epic fantasy tale set in Ancient China. It is about two brothers who split their paths to find their destiny. A fantastic read with the author's description extremely vivid and outstanding. Dragon Horse is one of the best books I have read by a long way. It is truly amazing and builds up to an enthralling finish keeping you in suspense until the final challenge unfolds.

In Dragon Horse, Peter Ward weaves a tale of adventure in which Rokshan the young hero faces physical danger and mental challenge in his quest to save his people. Richly imaginative and moving at pace, the story of two young brothers , wisemen, warriors, horses and spirits unfolds against the background of the Silk Route in ninth century China. Rokshan finds harmony through mindjoining with dragon horses , who combine grace and strength, thus surviving death.
Dragon Horse is both a gripping adventure story and an exploration of some of the fundamental questions facing mankind- family loyalty, good and evil and the hereafter. This beautifully written novel marks the arrival of an exciting new author.

I am not a great reader of fiction so started this book with my usual reservation.
well if they were all like this I would never get any work done.
Setting it on the Silk Road was novel, though meant the start needed concentration.
Then it evolved in to an entirely credible tale with consistency that kept you involved and caring about the characters.
I would compare Peter Ward to Ursula Le Guin, and her Earthsea series, for an engaging read for older readers with a great tale.

The level of detail is truly amazing - a whole new world has been created and leaves you wanting to know more. Very easy to follow despite huge cast of characters. Horse lovers must read this book. Totally enjoyable adventure story for any age - but you ought to have a bit of whimsy about you!

I found the beginning slightly hard to engage with but after a few chapters I was hooked!
The descriptive writing was great and it was very atmospheric. The use of Chinese mythology was interesting and made me want to find out more about the subject. An fascinating and gripping read.
