Heather Dyer visited our school recently, and we read this as a class book as a result. My class of Year 4 children loved this book, as did I. It wasn't obvious, it actually expected children to think about what the book was really about, and I think that this elevates it to a higher status in my eyes. Few books for children of this age group have high expectations of their readers - for this, Heather Dyer should be heartily congratulated.

Ok, I have to admit that I don't fall into the target age group for this book. It was for my daughter. That is until she was at an after school club and I found myself with some time to read 'The Girl with the Broken Wing'. What a fabulous book. And it's certainly not exclusively for girls
The story is dead simple and beautifully crafted. Some children hear a noise outside and open their attic window to rescue a girl...with wings. Angel? Fairy? Anyhow, one of her wings is broken so she stays in their bedroom while it heals. All sorts of lovely adventures ensue. No guns or baddies or car chases - just gentle (but page-turning) plot
I absolutely loved it. I then lent it to my daughter (the target audience) who also loved it. It then becaame the bedtime reading for my 8 year old son. Guess what? He loved it too
I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the sequel

Twins,Amanda and James, awake one night to find a strange girl on their roof. Hilary has a long white nightie, grubby feet and long feathery wings! The twins want her to stay at home out of trouble, but Hilary has her own ideas... I really enjoyed reading this book, there's something about the it that makes me want to know more. it's easy to read with a few well drawn illustrations. I recomend it to any little angels over eight years.
