This book looked so good...the cover was sexy...the premise sounded interesting but as far as paranormal romance goes, it was flat. Quinn looks delicious but I found his personality quite bland and he just didn't appeal to me. I read a lot of romance and I don't have to find the hero physically attractive to enjoy the book but there has to be that little something, a spark between the two characters. I want to feel emotionally satisfied and thrilled by their courtship. For me, this book simply wasn't steamy enough, I didn't feel any sexual tension...I wasn't dying to get to the part when they finally made love. If you like your paranormal romance along the lines of JR Ward, Kresley Cole, Angela Knight...then maybe I'd buy their next book instead of this one...

Sara Keegan is an ace accountant always working on another big deal until life changing events make her reassess her goals and values. Deciding to run her quirky aunt's new age book store is somewhat ironic, as Sara is very much a woman who values practicality, facts and tallied columns of numbers; that is until books on psychic powers mysteriously pull themselves from shelves and a stranger buys some expensive books on dragons; insisting they are for her to read and may just save her life. Suddenly Sara is falling in love with her own dragon and a believer in shape shifting warriors, supernatural powers and a helpful ghost; drawn into a secret world where it is believed she is the prophesised Seer whose union with the Smith will produce a child who will save the Earth.
Unknown to humankind, dragon shape shifters known as the Pyr strive to protect their greatest treasure (us humans) from eradication by the Slayers; renegade Pyr who view mankind as a destructive parasite. Whilst every dragon possesses powers over the elements, each has a special ability. Quinn Tyrrell, dragon hero of "Kiss of Fire" is the Smith, a hereditary position with certain benefits. He is able to wield metals with great skill and unlike other dragons, he is left not only uninjured but is revitalised by dragonfire. A solitary being, Quinn is rightfully distrustful of other Pyr and when his firestorm begins (an event signalling he will meet the woman destined to bear his son) he has difficulty determining who is Pyr and who is Slayer whilst trying to protect the life of the human woman he quickly falls in love with.
This book is absolutely fantastic and leaves me eager for more in the "Dragonfire" series. DB has vividly created a refreshingly new supernatural world which will appeal to anyone with a love of romance or dragons. Their culture, history and abilities are almost lovingly presented, the plot line is outstanding, and whilst this book is a love story between Quinn and Sara, each secondary character is as polished as the jewels and precious metals their dragon forms gleam with. Even the air conditioning unit in Sara's shop has a distinctive personality which raises a smile. I now eagerly await the publication of book 2 in Aug 08 ("Kiss of Fury") and book 3 in Feb 09 ("Kiss of Fate"). The heroes of these books feature heavily in "Kiss of Fire" and are great characters; however I do hope DB plans a novel for the Wyvern.
