Nutritional Facts, not nutritional Fads - Rated
If you are fed up with celebrity nutritionists such as Patrick Holford and Gillian McKeith this is the book for you. It looks at the scientific evidence and presents it in ways the average reader can understand. An excellent gift for a friend or relative who is permanently on a diet!
Informative Read - Rated
I recommend this book. I was glad to see that it gives a unbiased view of Nutrition and doesn't make suggestions on what you should or should not eat. Instead it gives you the information about different things and and gives you the information so that you can make these decisions for yourself. There is a lot of information covering many topics, very few things are not covered in some form or another. I enjoyed the fact that the book is non linear, allowing you to jump in and out as you please. Overall I found this an interesting read all in all. I suppose I should say that I am not a "Health Freak" or "Fitness Guru" either. Just a normal person interested in Nutrition.
Fascinating and useful stuff! - Rated
This book really does give you the full low-down about all things nutrition and it's refreshing to read a book on food that doesn't subcribe to some fad or other. The authors have aimed to provide 'sound information you can trust' and do so by sticking to the facts, rather than forcing their personal opinions on the reader. The information provided is presented clearly, and without jargon, and it's supported by plenty of facts and figures giving you a solid understanding on what food actually is and how your body reacts to it. I found the part on food and health particularly interesting and reassuring as opposed to a lot of the scaremongering that goes on in other books on the topic (food allergies in particular). If you are looking for a precribed diet or eating plan, you might want to look elsewhere, however, if you want to really understand food and be given the information to be able to make wise food choices for yourself, this book is highly recommended.
Sure start for healthier diet - Rated
An excellent book on nutrition! Compared to other books on nutrition that make you feel guitly while you read them, the joyful tone of this book inspires to change your bad eating habbits to more healthy ones without hurting your self-esteem and changing your lifestyle. Moreover, the author demonstrates, how to eat healthier without making a revolution in your fridge or looking stupid in a restoraunt. Thanks to this book I finally undestood everything that is needed about calories, proteins, carbs etc. Ever more- I learned how to easily calculate nutrients my own and how to control whether my diet is balanced or not. The author nicely demonstrates what are all these nutrients, where they are used in our body and from which food you can get them. The only limitation of this book is related to measurements it uses ounces and pounds instead of grams and kilos- I had difficulties with them. My favorite chapters were on food supplements, including vitamins where the author shows advantages and disadvantages of using them. (Did you know that too mych C vitamin is too bad for health?)
Super book, best ever on easy to follow nut. for begginners. - Rated
Love the book. This book is perfect for the begginning dieter. Usually when someone starts a new lifestyle, which includes a change in activity level and/or diet, they do not know much about what they need to do, as far as exercise, and how they need to eat to accomplish the goals they want. I am a exercise sports science major with a minor in nutrition and I have reccommended this book to many of my personal training clients. Reason being b/c as everyone knows you can not just start an exercise routine, you must change and modify your diet to see good results. Your body needs the right type of fuel and the right amount. This book explains in easy to follow terms how to go about changing your diet to a more healthy one. If you are trying to change your diet, knowing what you should be doing and eating is the place to start. Knowledge is a great thing! Buy the book you will be glad you did.
