Customer Reviews

hard to get into, text doesn't flow well. - Rated 2/5
I enjoy popular science books, such as the Man Who Loved only Numbers, Fermat's Last Theorem and The Code Book. This book was written in 1963 and the style is a little inaccessible in my opinion. I have and A level in Maths and a degree in Engineering but found the style got me lost in a few places. In the end I gave up with it. The book is also missing some vital bits of background that make the results more interesting.

Excellent mind food for the mathematically curious. - Rated 5/5
This book has been a favourite of mine for many years. Great to dip into as a bedside book. Explores the interesting/entertaining aspects of number theory without the theory - if you see what I mean. A diamond of a book for mathematicians - professional, amateur, or aspiring to either. Stuart R Scott

The best writing in the field - Rated 5/5
For one reason or another, this book contains the clearest exposition of Mersenne primes and quadratic residues I have ever read. It is very heavy on results and very light on proofs, so don't expect to learn anything here, but expect to be entertained.

A true number theory classic. - Rated 5/5
Want to get started in number theory? This book shows you the way. Easy to understand, fun and loaded with math for the masses. A must-buy!
