BEHIND ALL THINGS - Rated
I decided to buy kahlil gibrans book because of guilt, in my reading habits i have often neglected the middle east and its contribution to world literature, partly because i am slightly biased toward western romantics and i didnt believe that anything outside of the abbaasid dynasty could be as tantalising as omar khayyam or Rumi, but as always i have been proven wrong by this mystical little volume that is hidden under the guise of poetry and acts as a visual trancendent, it reflects parables that brings forth simplified examples of diverse human afflictions and how they can be tackled. Gibran obviously modelled his examples after the new testament parables and some of the tales of aesop, but madly enough hes brought the godless zarathustra into this cauldron allowing him to come down from his mountain and meet his tightrope walkers in gibrans distant "city of wirani." i am definately going to get hold of more of kahlil gibrans work merely because of its direct approach and the lack of dishevelled metaphysical baggage that usually accompanies the issues raised here. if you love poetry, art, and can stomach simplicity. if you want to rediscover the blind faith that lurks in a childs heart. read the works of this man, look beyond the aestheticism that you see in the printed letters, and actually listen to the words. he is a great writer who deserves more then to shoved into the little corner of the library that constitutes the ethnic section with the dust and the woodworms.
