It wasn't broke..why try and fix it? - Rated
Having used the Join In Course at each of the levels for five years I decided I'd give the new Join Us a try. I'd looked through each level before starting with a new group at the STARTER LEVEL. My first frustration is with the three class cds. I was forever changing the cds in the player. Next, the songs had been changed, edited and shortened and this was very frustrating. I had my methods of teaching the songs and I had to re-learn the songs and the songs had not been improved. (Why edit the fruit from the end of the sweets songs?) None of the edits made have improved the songs or any learning that could take place. It's tweaking for tweaks sake. Regarding the course books. Also working with very young students they were often confused about which book we were using, PUPILS or ACTIVITY. It's a money making venture where the school's are screwed to buy three CDs (could easily have been put on two,) the kids buy two course books, the video has animation that in style couldn't better Steamboat Willie. My advice...stick with Join In, it's a great course that I hope wlll continue to be available for many years to come.
