Very Funny - Rated
Trust me as someone who works on the ground for an airline this is very accurate,
Agree with the other reviews that it would have been better if had been written from a womens point of view, Very good read, not good as Hotel Babylon though
Intriguing - Rated
I read 'Air Babylon' during a recent trip to NY, enduring a number of BA cabin crew telling me it was all pure fiction. It is a very interesting concept in revealing the trade secrets of a chosen industry and a difficult one to pull off - my only criticism is that the 'do you remember the time that..." anecdotes come a bit too thick and fast towards the end of the book and do not flow into the day's diary of events as smoothly as the earlier chapters set in the Airport. There is some real food for thought here (speaking of which, you may never eat an airline meal again after reading this). In summary 'Air Babylon' will really get you thinking about very aspect of the flying experience next time you pass through a UK Airport, which may not be a good thing for the more nervous flyers out there.
Believe it or not... - Rated
Too shocking that not sure whether to believe it or not. Not recommend to read inside the cabin. 7 out of 10.
Scare Miles - Rated
Not as good as Hotel Babylon, and clearly an awful lot of "economy" with the truth. Some of it rings true, but I go along with some of the other reviewers and have to agree that no Pilot would put his own life at risk let alone that of his passengers for the sake of a faulty landing light. It also suffers as having been written supposedly from a man's perspective when the author is clearly female.Having said all that it is a non taxing quick read which should be taken with a bag of salt.
I wish she'd written it as a woman - Rated
While well-narrated and entertaining due to the sheer number of incidents the author manages to pack in, I have two issues with this book. The first is that many of the incidents just aren't believable enough and have clearly been exaggerated or made up to shock readers. The second is the fact that the author tries to narrate as a man. I agree with Jason's comments below - this just doesn't work. You will enjoy it more if you ignore the times s/he says "mate" and the awkward sexual tension at the end and pretend that the narrator is the character Tamsin Outhwaite plays in Hotel Babylon.
