Fantastic! - Rated
One of the best books I have ever read. Incredibly engaging, as fantasy is brought to life as though reality. There are also some amazing characters and origional ideas.
Others have compared Eragon to Star Wars, but I don't really think that they are similar at all - yes, the sense of action, adventure, new and exciting is there in both, but in Eragon the characters are brought to life as complex individuals, and these individuals are totaly different people to those in star wars. Although both plots are subtle and intriguing, they are actually, in content, completely dis-similar. I agree, however, that most authors get ideas from other books and films, but usually these are only a starting point and are developed into something completely new, and often better, than the origional.)
To get the best out of the books, I would strongly recomend the next one, Eldest, which is in many ways even more subtle and well written than Eragon, answering a number of the questions posed in Eragon and with a fantastic twist at the end (which is utterly believable as a lot then makes sense). Overall, both are a must-read!
Eragon - Rated

Film was much better! - Rated
I started to read this book before the film came out. I thought it was really good at first, where eragon found the dragon egg and it hatched. However, after Eragon left home with Brom, it really started to drag. I was getting bored out of my mind, and I was disapointed as the book is meant to be really good! But it isn't! I never finished it!
The film is miles better!!!!!!!!

Eragon is a fantastic fantasy novel that will have you hooked. Although it takes a while to get into, once you get to the third chapter you won't be able to put it down.
Its an enchanting story of a young boy called Eragon whose life in transformed when he discovers a dragon egg. Eragon is forced to run away when two strange figures come looking for the egg and kill his uncle. But before he runs away he meets the village storyteller Brom who claims he can help him and teach him about dragons and magic. Eragon and Brom encounter many problems on their journey and with each one you get more and more impatient, and more and more tempted to turn to the back and read the ending.
This book is brilliant, but the film is a real let-down. So I suggest you forget about
NOT AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT IN HIS HEAD - Rated
Thank god I didn't buy this book - only borrowed it! Not an original thought in this guys head. Anne McCaffrey's dragons communicate with their riders, they have an unbreakable bond with their riders and the dragons suicide if their rider dies - sound familiar! All I can say is what a fraud. Don't even mention this lightweight in the same breath as Anne. If he's not stealing from McCaffrey he's poaching from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
Won't waste my time reading any more if this is all he has to offer!!!!
