Fortunately for Jacqueline Wilson fans, her new books seem to come along a lot more regularly than JK Rowling's do, and for this latest, fantastic bittersweet slice of life offering they should again be grateful. Lola Rose is typical Wilson--a story of normal family strife, situations and feelings bound together with extraordinarily uplifting solutions that leave the reader with a tear in their eye and a smile on their lips.

Lola Rose is definitely one for her older readers, however. Jayni, her mum and little brother Kenny are forced to flee their family home when Jayni's dad starts hitting her too--as if it wasn't enough that he battered his wife about already. A desperate flight to London is made bearable when Jayni's mum wins £10,000 on a lottery scratch card and treats everybody to whatever they want. It's a chance to start again and have an adventure--and to forget. They even get to pick new names so that they can hide better. Jayni picks out "Lola Rose"--an exotic-sounding name she finds in one of the magazines she is so fond of cutting up and pasting into her scrapbooks.

But the lottery money doesn't last forever and Lola's mum finds it harder than she thought being away from her husband. However, it's definitely the start of something better for everyone despite a few hiccups along the way.

Jacqueline Wilson is a mega-star among children's authors. Her books are consistently unputdownable and Lola Rose exemplifies her skill at stirring the emotions in an unforgettable story that is sure to win her even more accolades. (Age 12 and over) --John McLay

One of the best books I've ever read - Rated 5/5
Jayni's mother wins the lottery, and when Jayni's Father becomes really terrifing and continues to abuse Jayni and her Mother, Jayni, her mom and her little brother Kenny go away in the night to London. Later on in this magnificent story Mom finds a new love, and the whole family change there names to: Kendall, Lola Rose and Victoria Luck. It all becomes terrifing when Victoria is diagnoised with cancer and in a trance she telephones her husband and tells him exactly where she is. He finds them, but when he goes to beat them Lola Rose's Auntie pitches in and kicks him up the bottom. Will anything turn out Ok for the family? Read Lola Rose to find out.

Fantabulous!!!!! - Rated 5/5
This is a fantastic book by the award winning author Jacqueline Wilson.

Lola Rose is about a girl called Jayni and her mum wins a scratch card. Not just ten pound but ten thousand pounds. Jayni's father abuses her mother and then starts to abuse Jayni. Then in the dead of night Jayni, her mother and her little brother Kenny run of in the dead of night. This book is sometimes scary but there are happy bits.

Highlights
I liked the entire book. Especially when a family member helps the family to get rid of the dad.

Any weak bits
I have to say that the weak bits are when they always have to go to an aquarium for the little brother.

Age Range
This book is for late primary and young teenagers.
You could finish this book in a week if you put your mind to it

Unputdownable?
When I started to read Lola Rose I couldn't put it down. Come on give it a try!

You dont have to be a teenager to read this! - Rated 5/5
I bought a Jacqueline Wilson book by chance a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it so much, I decided to invest in some more. I chose carefully, and chose those books I thought might appeal to teenagers and older readers.

Lola Rose didn't disappoint, although I felt real empathy with the main characters in the book, particularly Lola Rose, an [...] trying to hold her family together after they flee their voilent father. It was very intersting to see how mature Lola was, and how social issues DO and CAN affect children, even if parents think children don't see it. I won't tell you what happens at the end, but let's just say the book contains enough to make you want to keep reading it - domestic violence, eating issues, illness...don't get me wrong, this is not a depressing read, just a very interesting one. Well done JW for another fantastic book

This book is about a young girl called Jayni whos mum luckily wins £10,000 on a scrach card ,Jayni's dad unfortunatley beats up her mum ,Niki her mum has never bothered to do anything about it until she looses the last straw because he hits Jayni .

Niki , jayni and Kenny her younger brother move away to London to escape from jay her dad. After being in London for a short time Niki brought a small flat and a man called Jake moved in everything was good untill a small lump formed in Nikki's breast she had to go to the hospital so Jayni's auntie Barbra lookeed after them until Nikki got better ,Nikki soon got better after her terrible ordeal.

Allthough the story was very sad despite the sadness it was very good and i would recomend this book for girls of the age of 9-15 .
