In HORSE SHY, the second book in THE SADDLE CLUB series, Stevie, Carole, and Lisa finally get to go on the long-awaited Mountain Trail Overnight (or MTO). They have a great time, and things get even better for Carole when she gets back: she gets to care for Veronica's stallion, Cobalt. Veronica may be snobby, but Cobalt is beautiful and Carole loves him.
Then there's a tragic jumping accident and Cobalt is killed. Carole is devastated and swears that she'll never ride again. It's up to Lisa and Stevie to remind Carole how much she loves riding, and that life continues, maybe in ways that nobody expected.
HORSE SHY delves into deeper material than HORSE CRAZY, the first book in the series, with the death of a beloved horse, but Bryant still manages to keep it light for her readers, with a more than happy ending.

A Brilliant Bonnie Bryant Book - Rated
This is a really sad story, but is very grippimg, so you don't want to put it down. This is one of my favourite Saddle Club books as you really get involved with the much-loved characters. Carole decides to quit riding when Veronica diAngelo kills her horse in a riding accident, as she has always loved and looked after the beautiful black stallion, Cobalt. Can Lisa and Stevie persuade their horse-mad friend to come back to riding, as they know she has made a huge mistake?

I got Horse Crazy, and all through it they were leading up to Mountain Trail Overnight, so, I had to get Horse Shy to actually read about the MTO. It was great, and i liked the bit about the deers but it was so sad about Cobalt - and all because of Veronica;s selfishness. It was good that she practised in the library though. This book is great - READ IT!
I loved this book--but it was sad. - Rated
I have two friends and we formed the Stable Club. It's almost like the Saddle Club. We loved this book, but it was so sad. I have a horse that looks like Cobalt, but not as tall. (He's not a thoroughbred, and he's a gelding.) But I like her to be in the stories so Stevie can play a horrible prank on her! I've read tons of Saddle Club books and this one is one of my favorites. (I have many favorites!) Go Ms. Bryant!
A horse that Carole loves dies, will she ever ride again? - Rated
Veronica DiAngelo, a snobby and rich girl at Pine Hollow, accidentally kills her young stallion, Cobalt. Carole loved Cobalt so much that when he was alive that she would take care of him because Veronica didn't love him. When Cobalt dies, Carole decides to give up riding because he is dead. Carole's friends, Lisa and Stevie, try desperatly to get her to start riding again. Carole is so struck by Cobalt's death that she won't listen to her friends. Can Lisa and Stevie persuade Carole to ride? If they can't, what will happen to the three girls' friendship?
